I bought this version instead of the swivel mount because I had limited space. The product itself appears to be solidly built and will hopefuly last for some time. Wiring for the backlight was simple and only took minutes to install.
Once out on the water it did take me some time to dial it in with a secondary compass and GPS. The adjustment screw was difficult to manipulate in that you could make many small adjustments and the compass heading would not change, then one final input would cause it to change by amost 10°. With some patience I was able to get it dialed in and have been happy with it since.
The backlight is sufficient and doesn't distract my eyes at night and the dial is easy to read quickly.
This is not however a high dollar/high frills sailing or pro navigating compass.
Simple, easy to read, easy to install for the common boater.

Needed a compass for my boat. Had limited space to mount one, so I chose this particular one. The good thing about it is that it is small enough to mount directly in the factory installed cup holder. All I had to do is fill the extra space by using a foam drink holder (foam cooly) which I cut to the appropriate height to make the compass flush with the top of the console.
The compass itself is well made, works fine and is just what I needed for my boat.
