Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by extractor problem out of the box would not feed any shells into the barrel. The bullets show a scrape that looks like it could only come from the extractor which causes the feed failure. Called Remington and they were nice. They are sending a new bolt assembly which I like. Wish they had done better quality control. Will update when new part comes in. November 12, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Father's Day Gift Got this gun for Father's Day. Took it out of the box, ran over 100 rounds of winchester 555's through...no jams or misfires. My 9 year old loves it! Easy to shoot and load. Got the 30 round mag for more fun, and it worked great too. June 17, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great accurate reliable rifle. This rifle is great. I had to install a few aftermarket items to make it more reliable but those were easy and cheap upgrades. Shoots subsonics like a champ after break in. First of all. Don't over tighten the guide rods. They bend when they are too tight and cause the bolt not to be aligned and be pinched. 2 Changed the extractor, Although the one installed is fine. I had issues with subsonic rounds so I changed it. Now brass is thrown several yards. 3 Changed the hammer. This reduced the trigger weight by almost half. New magazines have a circle 10 and those are the best. All this was about $40 after shipping. Although after the upgrades, this rifle is still cheaper than the competition. The 10/22. Out of this box, this standard rifle will out-shoot any 10/22 under $500. I love the ruger.. but the cheap plating on the receiver and the barrel, the short stock ment for little girls is not a good fitting rifle for me or any person over 5'2 February 8, 2011

Yes, as long as you have the proper "rings" to do so! The rings hold the scope firmly to the rifle or rifle base. I suggest you add a "Weaver" type base to this rifle and then use "Weaver type rings. Please note: The rings must be the appropriate "height" for the scope that you choose. The Bass Pro gun guys should be able to help you out with this!

From the Remington 597 sight:

"Receivers are grooved for standard rimfire mounts and tapped/drilled for Weaver-style bases."

The magazine that comes with the Remington 597, chambered for .22LR cartridges, holds 10 "rounds" of .22LR cartridges. Remington also sells additional 10-round magazines as well as 30-round magazines should you want extras.
There is also a 597 that is chambered for the more powerful and more expensive .22 Magnum cartridge. This 597 Magnum comes with an 8-round magazine. If you want extras there are only 8-round magazines available.

usually 10 +1 but i would stay away from the 30 round magazine because even with the best ammo it has a failure to misfire (FTM) and somethings failure to eject (FTE) but with the 10 round magazine its quick, legit and you wont waste you time out in the field trying to unjam your rifle.

The stock clip, I think holds 10 rounds. But now you can pick up a 30 round clip for around 25 dollars. Yes, I was surprised to see a 30 round clip for the Remington 597.
