nice rifle I bought this rifle last year and shot it a lot i mean a lot never had a jam or anything. Just the one thing about this gun is it cant shoot shorts, which i did not know that. i guess clips wont allow that. March 27, 2012
cool gun! i bought this gun for my son at christmas, i must say i could not be more pleased. we have put around 300 rounds through it and no misfires or jams. this is his first firearm and he loves it. the gun came with a scope already installed and after being zeroed in you could not ask for a better shooting gun. bottle caps and even foam earplugs from 35-40 yards! great gun! Not Impressed I fired less than 60 rounds before this rifle's trigger broke. It was accurate, I can say that. I have not been impressed with Remington's customer service in the past so I will see how this goes with the warranty. February 18, 2012
Darn good 22 if you ask me I just bought this neat lil rifle and i have to say i will never regret it, it performs well, i ran a brick of xpert hv winchesters through it without any jams,no failure to feed.its an all around great rifle, and theres an AR conversion kit for it(archangel 597), and hey who said you cant use a 22 for home defense buy the 30 round remington magazine and tell me you dont have enough fire power to stop an intruder.no one wants to get shot no matter the size of the bullet. Yes, as long as you have the proper "rings" to do so! The rings hold the scope firmly to the rifle or rifle base. I suggest you add a "Weaver" type base to this rifle and then use "Weaver type rings. Please note: The rings must be the appropriate "height" for the scope that you choose. The Bass Pro gun guys should be able to help you out with this!

From the Remington 597 sight:

"Receivers are grooved for standard rimfire mounts and tapped/drilled for Weaver-style bases."

The magazine that comes with the Remington 597, chambered for .22LR cartridges, holds 10 "rounds" of .22LR cartridges. Remington also sells additional 10-round magazines as well as 30-round magazines should you want extras.
There is also a 597 that is chambered for the more powerful and more expensive .22 Magnum cartridge. This 597 Magnum comes with an 8-round magazine. If you want extras there are only 8-round magazines available.

usually 10 +1 but i would stay away from the 30 round magazine because even with the best ammo it has a failure to misfire (FTM) and somethings failure to eject (FTE) but with the 10 round magazine its quick, legit and you wont waste you time out in the field trying to unjam your rifle.

The stock clip, I think holds 10 rounds. But now you can pick up a 30 round clip for around 25 dollars. Yes, I was surprised to see a 30 round clip for the Remington 597.
