These innovative loads are the fastest velocity, highest downrange pattern energies Remington has ever produced in a steel waterfowl loads. Its big speeds help reduce the lead you need to take on birds in the air, increasing your success rate and reducing the number of cripple shots flying away. The heart of this new shell is Remington's patented Xelerator wad. This innovative design features an "ignition chamber" filled with a small powder charge that moves the shell's entire payload forward slightly before the main charge ignites, providing increased volume behind the wad for the charge. This innovative wad is the key to delivering this kind of power without causing dangerous chamber pressures. The HyperSonic's shotcup starts out as one piece, keeping the shot together (to put more pellets in the head and neck) before "stress concentrators" on the sides cut the shotcup into petals, releasing the pellets. Well, I was impressed by the idea and speed of Remington Hypersonic. I always prefer fast loads so once I saw this product I bought two boxes of 1 1/4 #1 to try them. First, I tried them on the pattern board in a Beretta Urika Auto loader with a Trulock Modified choke. I put one shell at a time in the chamber (none in the magazine), it pattered very nicely at 40 yards (I did not try any other distances yet). The pattern didn't have any big empty areas in it. The best pattern I have seen for a while. However, the recoil was pretty strong (I would say 50% more than other shells I have tried including heavy metal BB, Winchester Supreme BBs, and Kent Faststeel #2s (this by itself wouldn't deter me from buying the shells). The gas pressure from the shell was so strong that it closed the action (despite the fact that there were no shells in the magazine and hence the action should have stayed opened). I went geese hunting and put hypersonic in the chamber and the magazine, the first shell went bang (perfectly nice), the action threw out the empty shell and was closed slam shut...yet failing to feed the second shell. I have been using my Beretta for over a year now, it never failed to cycle. The hypersonic creates a heavy pressure that closes the action so fast that prevents it from feeding in the second shell, this is pretty consistent with slam shutting the action when there is no shells in the magazine. I guess one solution to this problem is to use the shells in an over and under (or a pump action), but I wouldn't wanna take the recoil of this shell in either one. Despite the good idea of this product and the nice pattern, I would not recommend this product for an auto loader either, as you will have one shell only at your disposal. I guess one way around that is to put a different type of shells in the chamber and the magazine so that the hypersonic would be the last to be shot...you will then have to adapt to the different speeds and factor this in your lead.
