Remington Model 870 Express Pump-Action Compact Shotgun - Hardwood
Look No Farther for a First Gun
I cannot say enough about this gun. So many years ago, my uncle (a Legend waterfowl hunter in my area) offered to take me shooting for the first time- I used an old 410 gauge and was instantly hooked. He promised me my first hunt after Christmas and I asked my parents, with doubt of success, for my first shotgun. Well, I was wrong. My uncle told my parents exactly what to get me, a Remington 870 Express Youth. I opened up the box on Christmas morning and fell in love. The classic wood-finish and the unmistakable sound of pumping it gave me chills. What I didn't know was how beneficial this gun would be for my hunting, and shooting as a whole future. The gun is extremely easy to operate, clean, and repair. I was taking this gun apart and putting it back together almost immediately after reading the manual. I used this gun on countless hunts (duck, geese, quail, dove) and for countless hours on the local skeet range. I was young, and naturally I abused this gun; from being out in freezing rain for hours to shooting hundreds of rounds on the range on a sweltering summer day, but through everything this bad boy held through. The worst problem I had with this gun was some rust on the outside of the barrel (which quickly came off with some steel wool and elbow grease). I cannot recommend this gun enough for any youth entering the shooting world. My gun is now getting old, I take care of it and plan on passing it on to my son when he is ready. I loved this gun so much, I own a few different 870s which I currently shoot, though none come close to beating my good old 870 Youth. The only downside I can give: it is extremely addicting to shoot, you will be spending a lot on ammunition to fuel the new passion this gun will spark. If you are looking for a first gun for a special kid in your life (please ensure they are mature enough to handle the FIREARM and ensure you teach them gun safety and maintenance techniques) then look no farther than the Remington 870 Express Youth, it is nothing less than perfect.

870 20 ga youth best purchase yet!!
I am having trouble keeping squirrels out of my pecan trees and wanted a shotgun to help me out.
Went to Wal Mart looking for a 20 ga shotgun.
All they had was this little youth model.
I bought it just because that`s all they had.
I got it home and the next day walked down in the woods behind my house and the first 5 shots killed 4 squirrels!!
Devastating on them, man I love this shotgun.
I never dreamed it would be so accurate and hold a pattern up to 40 yards and kill them dead.
Best shotgun I ever bought, and I own 3 other 20 ga`s and a 12 ga, nothing will outshoot this little rascal!!
Very light compact and versatile, little or no kick with high brass # 6 shot, just love it.
Would highly recommend it to anyone!!

easy for arthritic old timers to shoot clays
My wife and I are slowing down, and this light shotgun is easier to shoulder and track clays than some of the others we checked. We both enjoy shooting it.
It came with a removable choke, and there are several size chokes available. I now have three, the original modified, a cylinder and a full.
It is a shotgun, so it can be used for hunting, targets, trap and clays.
It’s a Remington 870, so there are plenty of instructional videos, local experts, etc.
In a year, we’ve put at least 800 rounds through it, most #8 lead shot at clays, but also some buckshot and a few slugs, just to see what that did to pumpkins. We have had no problems.
Field stripping and cleaning is easy, reassembly was a bit of work the first couple times, but I did see a few videos that were a bit better than the printed instruction. Now, it’s about 40 seconds to reassemble.
I also like the trigger and pump release cover lock that came with the shotgun. A nice touch.
I’d recommend the usual accessories, cleaning tools, brushes, bore snake, solvent and oil when purchasing. Don’t shoot slugs through the choke it comes with, get either a cylinder or skeet choke for slugs.
