I am a firm believer in a hunter's first shotgun needing to be pump action (I doubt many disagree with me) because the novice needs to learn to slow down and control his aim. The second reason I love this is because it's a Remington and these systems allow the new hunter to become an expert in repair and maintenance of weapons. The final reason I especially like this system is because it is chambered for 3" shells; this means it can fire the less powerful 2 3/4" shell and the powerful 3" shell, meaning a hunter can go from target shooting to taking down ducks with the same gun.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, hope you got your answer. This gun has a 13" length of pull. I highly recommend either this gun or the standard Remington 870 Express Youth as a first gun (I would get this if you plan on taking the youngster hunting with slugs as this has a rifled barrel included).1 of 1
