The Remington® Model 870™ Pump-Action Shotgun is one of the most proven firearm's designs in history. The 870 Express® is a rugged, value-priced workhorse, making it one of the most useful tools that a shooter can own. The versatile, no-nonsense 870 Express with Extended Magazine can be used for a home defense shotgun, a tactical shotgun, or a camp gun in bear country. The 18-1/2" barrel has a fixed cylinder choke for optimum performance with buckshot and slugs at close range. The Extended Magazine holds 6 rounds of either 2-3/4" or 3" shells, plus one in the chamber for a total of 7 rounds. A myriad of aftermarket Remington 870 accessories enables owners to customize the 870 Express for specific purposes. At the heart of the ultra reliable 870 Remington is a receiver milled from a solid billet of steel for maximum strength, and twin action bars that prevent binding and twisting while cycling the action. 870 pump shotguns have great pointing characteristics. They come to the shooter's shoulder and acquire targets instinctively. The Remington Model 870 Express Pump-Action Shotgun - Synthetic comes with virtually indestructible black synthetic stock and fore-end that are impervious to water, and a non-reflective matte black, bead-blasted finish on the receiver and barrel. Sling swivel studs provide the quick attachment of a sling to free the user's hands while carrying the gun. A durable, rubber recoil pad dampens recoil and helps shooter to stay on target for fast follow up shots.

Great home defense shotgun. I visited my local Bass Pro Shop's and picked this shotgun up for both home defense & IPSC style shotgun target shooting. The 18" barrel allows for fast target transitions, and is fast handling. And I really like how the magazine tube holds 6 rounds, and is a one piece design instead of the older style that has the 2 round extension that clamps onto the barrel. The price was very reasonable as well. I would highly recommend this shotgun for anyone who is looking for a tactical style shotgun for either home defense or "tactical" style target shooting. Excellent! I just bought this shotgun at the Bass Pro in East TN near Pigeon Forge. I've been looking for a quality home defense shotgun for over a month, and Bass Pro had one that I liked in stock! There were two guys that were very helpful at their gun counter. I called the store before I drove down because I didn't want to make the trip for something that may not be in stock. They held this shotgun for me until I could come get it. Their customer service was excellent, and so is this Remington 870. My wife had trouble shouldering the Mossberg 590, but this fits her very well. Thank you to Bass Pro for carrying a great product at a great price, and thank you also for awesome customer service!!! Excellent Choice This was the first shotgun I've purchased. Everything I was looking for in a Home Defense shotgun. Shortest barrel holding as many rounds as possible. Doesn't weigh too much, so it's also easy for the wife to handle. Did some target and skeet shooting and it performed admirably for such a task. I would recommend this gun to anyone! Great Customer Service! Great Weapon! I have to give kudos to the great customer service at Bass Pro and the assistance in finding a perfect home defense weapon. Fred was great! Not only was he knowledgable, but patient and willing to see that all my questions were answered when choosing a weapon for such needs. He also took time to pull all the optics off the shelf and worked with me through them and never straying off. AMAZING! This is awesome and goes right along with the quality I received with my new Remington tactical shotgun. This weapon is great, built and functions great, and I couldn't be happier! I've purchased two of my weapons from Bass Pro and will continue to do so with this level of support! Great work and Thank you again! January 29, 2014

Yes, in the box should be a black "T" looking figure. That is the tool you should use to take out the tube and to put it in. When you put in a new tube make sure 1. It is meant for the gun and 2. You screw it in tightly. If either of these is not done then it might result in a messed up barrel. I hope this helps.

They are both pumps, both great starter guns, and great shotguns for the price. The mossberg overtime has proved to be a tougher gun however the 870 is way more reliable and will last longer. If you are looking for one of these guns for fun, hunting, or sporting, i recommend the 870.if this gun will be a tactical gun the mossberg is definitely better. I hope this helps!

A:
The Remington 870 is a better quality shotgun, which probably explains the price disparity between the two. The Mossberg is a perfectly good shotgun -- I've got one myself -- but I use it for home defense and as a "field" gun I can throw in the trunk or back of the pickup, and not worry too much about it getting banged-up.

Yes, the Remington 870 can shoot 00 Buck. Check your choke though, most 870s come with a waterfowl choke which would become damaged if you fired slugs or 00 buck through it.

Yes, 870s come with simple weather protection and simple anti-rust protection. However, my 870 developed rust because I got complacent after two consecutive days of rainy hunts. Always properly dry your shotgun and care for it to ensure it is always in peak condition. (If your gun should rust or become slightly weathered, the 870 shooting system is extremely easy to repair using steel wool)

Yes, this shotgun can chamber up to a 3" shell, meaning it can chamber anything leading up to that but not exceeding that.

Yes. 2 3/4 is the standard length 12 gauge shell. This model will also chamber a 3" shell, although I don't prefer the additional recoil and blast.

Oh yeah you can. 870s are incredibly easy to disassemble (I was cleaning and repairing my 870 before I could even read). 870s are probably my favorite all around shotgun because of the ease of interchangeability. Swapping the barrel for a longer one and back is extremely simple and fast. Simply unscrew the cap of the magazine, pull the barrel off, put the new barrel in its place, and screw the cap back on and shoot some clays.
