Rated 5 out of 5Â by banditman Great beginners outfit!!!
Bought the crosswater outfit un a recommendation from a friend and have caught many rainbows and brookies with it. Slow to moderate action guarantees ease of use. The rod is of good quality, although I would prefer a full alloy reel. It functions flawlessly though!

I am using this rod paired with a sage 1640 reel. The reel that comes with it is very nice, I am using it on a different rod though. The combo itself is very well matched. Even when spooled with line the combo balances out very nicely. The finish on the rod is gorgeous. The rod tube is very nice, however I wish it did not have the clear side. I did try the combo out before I repurposed the original reel. I used SA backing and sa mastery trout 5w wf. casts with ease. The rod is a slow to moderate action. Very supple. The reel weighs nothing. The rod is a good 2 ounces lighter than its competitors. You can swing this all day with no fatigue. Reel seat is nice, although i wish it had a locking ring.

I bought this combo as a starter kit and have been thoroughly impressed. It is a great light set that will do everything you need it to and at a great price. I am very happy with it, and will keep it for a long time.

Match your line weight to your rod and match your rod weight to the size of fish you're trying to catchA:Â
5-6 weight is a good place to start. It is fairly easy to cast with moderate wind. Soft enough to feel a bite from those pesky panfish, yet has a strong enough backbone to fight a decent sized trout or bass. The 8 weight is going to be more suitable for light salt use, high wind conditions, flipping heavy bass bugs, and fishing for bass and carp in heavy cover, or at least thats the only time my 8w gets use. Once you get the basics down a 2 or 3 weight is a lot of fun. Bass pro offers free casting lessons which will help cut the learning curve down. You still need to practice though. Find a good grassy area and tie a chunk of gloworm yarn or foam to the end of your leader and practice practice practice. The cast is the best part of fly fishing and takes a lifetime to master. It can be quick and dirty or lengthy and beautiful.Answers

This rod will handle most saltwater inshore species very well. You may want to look at a 10 weight for the larger stuff-Big tarpon, snook, reds, manatees.....A:Â
This rod would do fine for saltwater. The only issues is the size of fish. Make sure that you buy the wt of rod for the wt of fish. In salt water, you never know if you are going to catch a 10-15 pd Red or a 40 pd. Most saltwater fish are aggressive and SUPER fighters compared to fresh water fish. I grew up on lakes in SC, and it took a while on the Pensacola coast to get the right rod/reel and line size. Saltwater will make you a better overall angler.A:Â
I took a look at this rod and reel today. The guy told me it was fine for saltwater. Mostly graphite construction, no dissimilar metals. They did recommend giving it a good rinse after use.A:Â
I would not recomend this fishing rod and reel for salt water but what ever I would recomend this one that I find out this rod and reel combo on bass pro that would work for you for salt water Heat Complete Fly Outfits1 of 1
