I use the RedHead Cartridge Carrier only on my deer rifles, so this review doesn't include shotguns. I think the cartridge carrier is the most useful accessory a deer hunter can use. It keeps spare ammunition at your finger tips, close to where you need it, and not clanging around in an overstuffed pocket. I like to use my pockets for other things. The Cartridge Carrier does fit a little loose toward the front of the stock, and it does tend to slide forward, but I remedied this minor problem by putting the screw for the rear sling swivel through the Cartridge Carrier material and securing it. This prevents the carrier from sliding forward. Try it, you'll like it.

The very design of this product doesn't make sense. Its straight and square. Have you seen a shotgun butt that is straight and square? Gun stocks are tapered. The result is a product not designed for its intended purpose. One end of the the shell holder fits tight the other end hangs down where the stock tapers. With a poor fit the holder is like a bad pair of socks, always sliding down because of the violent recoil of a 12 guage shotgun.

I can see the shells getting in the way looking down the barrel. Is there a left handed version?Answers
A:Â
Right hand only. However, if you don't use a sling, then you should be able to flip to the other side.A:Â
They do not come in a left hand model and cannot be just turned over and put on that way.A:Â
This is a universal design, just turn it to the other side of the stock.A:Â
just flip it upside down - shells will go in either directionA:Â
Well Jake, if I'm not mistaken, you can rotate it counter-clockwise so that the shells are on the left hand side of the stock.Top 10 Contributor

It will work on either right or left handed guns since the shell loops are open on both ends...actually works equally poorly on both. Hangs in clothes and makes gun unnecessarilly heavy.Top 500 Contributor

The shells are on the other side of the stock than your face so this will not get in the way sighting because the part touching you is thin.As for a left handed version, just put it on baskwards the shells will be on the other side.
