I was looking for something to wear while photographing nature and wildlife. I am not concerned about photographing in heavy rain, but need to be able to kneel, crouch, sit, and lay on wet and muddy ground without having water seep through to my body. I also wanted something that would stand up to briars and thorns. I was not concerned with heavy insulation or scent control.
This jacket performs exactly as I hoped. Water does not seep through the fabric, and after over one year of ripping through blackberry briars and thorn bushes, there are no rips or holes in the fabric. I only wish the hood was removable or stowable.
I've worn this many times in light-to-medium rain, and stayed dry. But for those of you wanting something to keep you dry in heavy rain, look elsewhere. This jacket does not have storm cuffs or collar, and water will find its way in. I wore this jacket (and matching bibs) in a bass tournament in very heavy rain and got completely soaked under the suit.

This jacket blew my mind! Bought it and got to use it immediately testing it at a rainy friday night football game. Granted I wasn't in the woods, it still kept me "Bone-Dry". I had my phone in one of the front pockets and my wallet in the other front pocket. They stayed dry at all times and the fleece pockets underneath were perfect for warmth. Great Lightweight jacket for layering in the field.

Purchased the jacket and bibs as a set specifically for a 10 day caribou hunt on the North Slope in Alaska. I wore them every day as my primary outer layer. Temps varied from low 30s to highs in the mid 50s with rain, snow, wind and shine all part of the mix. My inner garments never got wet and the outers garments dried extremely quickly just by hanging them in the tent overnight. Better yet, despite alder thickets, muskeg and terrains of all types they remain looking virtually new. Absolutely worth every dollar spent.

I bought this jacket hoping it would be waterproof. Boy was I disappointed when I wore it in a steady (not heavy) rain, because after about 20 minutes my head and shoulders were soaking wet. Another problem is that the jacket gradually slips off my shoulders, so it needs frequent re-adjustment to stay in place. If having a waterproof jacket that fits properly is important to you, then spend the extra cash and buy Gore-Tex.
