RedHead Bone-Dry Waterproof Bayou Zip Snake Boots for Men
Zip off! (maybe)
Over the last few years, I have purchased 3 pairs of Redhead Snake Boots and have found them to be the most comfortable and durable boots I have owned. With hard wear, I have found them to be completely waterproof for up to two full seasons. I have convinced others in our hunt club to purchase them and everyone has been satisfied. The latest pair was a disappointment to me when I opened the box and realized that the zipper slide and teeth were about half the size and appear much lighter duty than the previous 2 pair. The zipper slider now has a small cord attached to compensate for its diminished size. My observation is that the price on this product has increased while the perceived durability diminished (only time will tell). I have worn the boots twice and intend to keep them as everything else seems fairly equal. I would give this product 5 stars except for the "new" zipper. I sent my observation to Bass Pro who said they would "forward it to the merchandisers".

I bought these boots about five years ago thinking I would need them once I started spending more time in the field here in Louisiana, but rarely used them until this year. Accordingly, these boots are barely broken in from actual use and do not have five miles walked in them yet, all in grassy fields here in Louisiana – hardly rough ground. When I got them out this year, the soles literally crumbled as noted in the photo.
Although the rest of the boot appears to be very well made, the soles are some sort of foam rubber covered with a harder rubber you would need a micrometer to measure that has no meaningful shelf life. Could it be WW II jeep tires? Even worse, the boots are so poorly designed, the soles cannot be replaced.
I know these boots are now old but I would have expected more from RedHead and Bass Pro Shops. I was very disappointed to learn their idea of customer service is strictly time contrained. A bad product is a bad product – no longer how long that takes to come to light.

Redhead snake boot flaws
Like most reviewers, I love this boot because it is very comfortable (in the cool months) and stylish, but unbearably hot in the Georgia summers.
I would not recommend this boot for (for now) because of the following reasons: After about 1 year, the inner lining comes loose and binds with your socks when trying to remove the wet boot. It is very difficult to get the boot off which causes the lining to come out even more. I've purchased two pair already before realizing this fault and the same thing happened to both. They are not reliably water proof and should not be advertised that way. Additionally the leather toe wore out quickly (from kicking up property corners). The camoflage front tears from walking thru briars and thorns, but to me that's minor. If these items are fixed I will no doubt by two more pair.

Don't buy it
I am having the same experience many others here are having with this boot. That is, the sole completely disintegrates with very little use. The sole appears to be a foam-rubber type material. The foam-rubber breaks down, and starts coming apart in pieces. I absolutely cannot recommend these boots to anyone except perhaps my worst enemy. If I can contact the manufacturer, of course they are made in China, I will be asking that they replace them free of charge.
