I would like to give any/all considering this gun case some updated information. I recently purchased several of these gun cases to use with scoped rifles. In the product description it states they are a "48" inch long gun case. That may have been true in the past, but that isn't even close for the present. I read all the customer reviews for this product...they go back to 2006 and all are good reviews with some minor quips about the interior materials used in manufacturing. This gun case is NOT a 48 inch long gun case. I suspect there have been changes in the manufacture of this item; however, the description of the product has not been changed, corrected or noticed by those selling this product. The gun case actually measures 45 and 3/4 inches for the actual usable interior of the case. If you would examine the photo of the case it shows a small "D" ring at the small end and a full length zipper. Also two 1 inch webbed handles. The full length of this gun case actually measures only 47 1/2 inches. including the zipper seams which take up 1/2 inch at each end of the case and the "D" ring which is 3/4 inch +/- a tad bit.
If you do the math...47 1/2 minus the "D" ring (3/4 in.) minus the seams (1 in. total) The usable space is 45 3/4 in.
I tried several scoped guns in this gun case and they all failed to fit in the case with the zipper closed. I also used the specs for a Savage 7 mm Mag. rifle, which a earlier reviewer gave good reviews for this gun case. It won't fit this gun case as the gun case is now being manufactured.
The case isn't a bad gun case. It's a fair price and I intend to use mine for other long guns, but not scoped rifles. The interior space gets eaten up fast by the width of the rifles and the way the seams are sewn for the zippers. I attempted to place a Thompson Center Triumph Rifle in the case, but the zipper wouldn't close. (too tight of fit)
My TC Triumph measures only 42 1/4 in. from the end of barrel to the end of the butt pad.
The way the case is manufactured...doesn't give as much adequate space inside the gun case for many rifles which you may think would fit inside of it.
Bottom line on this is ... a 42 1/4 in. rifle should fit in a 48 in. gun case, but in this specific gun case it ain't gonna happen! It is perfect for the Ruger 10-22's which are a somewhat smaller firearm.
This gun case is a good gun case and priced fairly. I like it and will keep them for other firearms. Just wanted to share with others...that it may or may not work out for your scoped rifle as it is short and cramped for interior space. Try it first.
I would recommend to a friend with a caution as to size. Enjoy 2013!
