Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 67 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Must Have This One! This lure is by far the most effective weapon I've ever used for shallow water bass. The only three bass over 10 lbs I have caught were all caught on this lure, 2 on the SSRO8 Shiner lure. If you don't have this in your tackle box it is incomplete. The action is so smooth and lifelike it is amazing. December 28, 2006
Rated 5 out of 5 by Killer Whenever the bass are up shallow I love to tie one of these on and just kill the fish... they don't make them any better than Rapala. Weather you just crank it in, jerk it, stop and go, or twitch it this lure produces November 9, 2006
Rated 4 out of 5 by good As I was trying to learn crankbaits, I always thought I would get first fish on a crankbait with this one, and boy was I right. It led me into a whole world of crankbaits, and this one still is the most productive. September 6, 2006
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bass Legend The Rapala Shallow Shad Rap will always be a bass legend to me. Ever since I first started fishing for large and smallmouth bass, I have relied mostly on the Shallow Shad Rap. I haven't caught as many bass on this lure as I have on any other largemouth bass lure. I have also caught many other types of fish besides largemouths which include smallmouths, calico bass, bluegills, rock bass, pumpkinseeds, yellow perch, white perch, and chain pickerel. Earlier this year on the first day of spring when the ponds where I live were clear, I decided to see what I could do with my 2 3/4 inch perch Rapala Shallow Shad Rap. I caught a total of 13 largemouth bass. One of those 13 largemouths that I caught was giving me a great fight. Once I got it in I couldn't believe my eyes. I caught my new personal best which was 6 pounds 10 ounces. Next day I gave the same lure a try at the same spot and caught 10 largemouths. One week ago I was fishing with a budy of mine on his canoe at a bass management lake in Ridgefield, CT. I tried many different lures but nothing was working for me. But by the time I put my 2 3/4 inch perch Shallow Shad Rap on, I caught 5 largemouths within 7 casts and 5 minutes. When I started fishing for smallmouth bass, I was having more luck with the 2 inch shiner Shallow Shad Rap than other lures. Once while I was fishing a reservoir, I was nailing yellow perch up to 13 inches with my 2 inch shad Shallow Shad Rap. The Shallow Shad Rap has caught me more largemouths from 2 to 6 1/2 pounds than any other lure out there. So the Rapala Shallow Shad Rap will always be a bass legend to me and never leave it at home while fishing. July 28, 2006

I think the crooked lip just keeps the lure from running too deep and also keeps it from hanging up.

A steady retrieve will produce the normal side to side action but a pop and pause will get it to do some radical things to include turn 180 degrees. For some reason that drives the fish nuts around here.

The action is more erratic than the usual side to side. I like to fish it with twitches and jerks. Makes bass crazy.

absolutely - caught lots of pickerel on these here in Massachusetts. The #7 size in silver, gold, or perch works best for me in these waters.

Yes, pickerel will bite anything a LM bass will. They tend to like fast moving and brightly colored lures......good luck

it runs shallow but if the grass is that close to the surface i would advise a top water lure or weedless plastic.

It's dependent on lure size and retrieve but 2 to 6 feet is normal.

This lure runs anywhere from 6 - 0 ft. It depends on how far you cast and how fast you retrieve it.

The lure is rated at depths of 4 to 11 feet depending on how fast you retrieve it of course. If you do a twitch and pause retrieve, you can keep it at two feet but if you want to run something around 2 feet at a steady crank, i would recommend some of the Bomber shallow running cranks. They make some that run as shallow as 12inches... I hope this helps... Good fishin!

I just want to hear your suggestions for your favorite shallow runners for bass. Mine would probably be the Bandit 100, the Storm Subwart, Rapala Floater, and Rebel Crawfish. I just want to hear your opinion. Thanks

Mann's Baby -1 Minus is killer for largemouth bass in shallow water. For smallies, I have not found any better crankbait than the Rebel Crawfish(I have mainly fished smallmouth in streams).

My favorite is a Rebel Bumble Bug it will catch loads of bluegill and bass too. Also one of my favorites to use is the Bomber Square A Series. I just started to use the Rapala Shallow Shad Rap and have caught fish with it but haven't used it long enough to consider it a "go to" bait for me.
