Rapala's adrenaline-pumping Saltwater X-Rap Lures have had a huge impact on the way anglers target almost every kind of saltwater species. Built to withstand the onslaught of saltwater giants, the extreme X-Rap slashbaits produce an aggressive, hard-cutting, darting action that drives every fish to strike. Integrated long casting system partners with the X-Rap's irresistible rattle to make them even more tempting. Complete with VMC® Perma Steel Hooks. Run from 3' to 8'.
After a slow period of catching keeper Rockfish, switched to Rapala X-Rap Clacker. First time out caught a 24 inch Rock & soon after caught an 18" Spanish Mackeral. Later caught a couple smaller Rock. Next day I ordered 3 more that dive to different depths. Not cheap but made very well. Snagged a large skate in the wing & dragged it to the boat only to have the skate bang the lure against the boat for a few minutes while I retrieved the lure. Thought that might damage it but it didn't and I continued to use this lure & catch more fish.

Solid Solid Choice
I use this lure when scouting new areas do to these ease of fishing multiple different styles with one lure. Fishes deep or skinny and can be as jerky as you want. Catches fish with the best of them and very routinely out fishes live bait. Ghost white is best color I have found but I think I have caught fish on just about every color. Solid Lure. Cant go wrong here.

Best Overall Artificial
This is probably the most effective saltwater hard bait I have ever used. One evening I was fishing and nothing was happening with live bait. On a hopeless trial I used this lure and then it really picked up. I caught a few huge speckled trout, jack crevelle, and lady fish on the sardine color. Great lure and a must have.

Excellent In Shore Lure
I recently used the 4-3/4 inch Blue Sardine Suspending model on a Kayak trip to Loreto BCS, Mexico.
Slow trolling the lure produced numerous Triggerfish, Needle Fish and Barred Pargo.
The Triggerfish chewed the lure up pretty good but it lasted the entire trip and will be my lure of choice until it finally breaks, Ordered two more, same pattern for spares.

If you are a "match the hatch" kind of guy like I am I would go between three patterns.
(1) black back, silver: I really like the contrast, which makes it pretty visible in stained water. I also like the red coloration under the chin that looks like an injured baitfish and I believe this elicits strikes.
(2) Olive Green: Snook love greenies, enough said
(3) Spotted Minnow: I have had great luck with this pattern in the ocean, on the beaches, and in inlets. I find this pattern looks like small spotted trout, a bit like a sea run herring, and enough like a mackerel to do the job. I have not caught snook on this pattern but I have caught stripers, sea trout, jacks, and cudas.
I will be surf fishing on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in March and am looking for suggestions or tips on lures etc. My experience in fishing is jigging or trolling the lakes of Ontario, so this will be my first time doing this.
