  • Larger shad profile
  • Balanced design
  • Zinc weighted
  • Single reversed hooks
  • Center treble hook and eyelet
Sporting the shape of success, the deep-bodied Rapala Jigging Shad Rap was developed for vertical jigging ice fishing. Designed with a center eyelet for outstanding balance and outfitted with quality hardware, the zinc-weighted Jigging Shad Rap has very pronounced slow circle-down action. Raising the Jigging Shad Rap in a sharp ''snapping'' motion will cause the lure to circle faster. A quick ''vibrating'' motion can also be used at fixed depths to draw strikes from bass, walleye, salmon, trout and pike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by not just for ice fishing I live in Alabama and i use these jigs year round, They are super productive in deep water and for schooling fish. February 16, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for saltwater too Erratic action really gets multi-species going. You can cast out and jig back right up to the boat/seawall and then along sides of boat/seawall in either direction w/o even lifting from the water! Flicks of the wrist make it dart all over the place.Stays in the strike zone depth where the fish can see it and follow it all the way in before slashing at it wildly! Be patient after reeling in and make sure to give it some vertical action at your feet like muskie fishing with the figure 8's at the boat. Get it? and Get it! May 22, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Out-fished live minnows I used this lure on what turned out to be a very slow day of ice fishing on Lake Simcoe. I out-fished my mates 3 to 1 by tipping this lure with a white Gulp waxie on the treble hook. Too bad all the perch I caught were little dinks! Try the pearl colour as shown. February 3, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Not just for ice I live in florida and most people here have never heard of ice fishing. I love this lures, it works great for suspending bass on HOT SUMMER DAYS. Thats right, summer, this bait work all year round for all kinds of fish. The hooks are wonderful and hold up to the largest of bass. I just wish my local BPS would carry them January 3, 2010

I would try it anywhere except "snaggy" areas or shallow water, not less than 6ft or so.

This lure is meant to be fished vertically. If you fish it that way (and all other conditions are right), it will catch fish no matter the geographic location.

Well nothing replaces the use of a tip-up and live minnows for any game fish during icefishing. I turn to these jigs when I'm trying to make things happen. They can be used effectively when used with a fish finder like a vexilar, this allows you to see the fish's reaction to your presentation. I have used these jiggs to grab the attention of yellow perch brining them in but I have to drop a different line in to get them to bite. Unlike open water fishing ice fishing will not have many days that you can get by with catching fish on artificial baits, even with jigg fishing you will be tipping the hook with some kind of live bait. But it is alway good to expand your arsenal and be ready for those days you can make something happen with artificials.

Using a jigging shad rap under ice for pickerel should be a fairly productive technique. I've caught many bass, walleye and crappie on these little guys, and pickerel seem to strike similar baits; we just don't have an abundance of pickerel in the waters I fish. Good luck!
