Rapala Electric Travel Fillet Knife
Better than the rest
Being an avid fisherman for most my life, I have used about every brand electric knife. The Rapala has held up the best for me. They ALL WEAR OUT! I get about 2 seasons from each knife. This translates into over 1,000 fish over the lifetime of the knife. We fillet mostly stripers, large and smallmouth bass and catfish. When you figure the time savings, it's well worth the money spent. Just take your time while working through the rib cage, then you're home free to finish down the side of the backbone. If you don't want to mess around hacking through the rib cage on the bigger fish, cut around the rib cage until your free to continue down the backbone!

Not good at all
No reflection on Bass Pro Shop, but this product is terrible. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and had the opportunity to use it today. I had two really nice catfish over 5 lbs each and started to filet them. The knife comes in a really nice case all the attachments. I started to use it and the motor was very weak and would stop, the the position of the blade lock button is such that without meaning to you press it as your pressing the switch. I ended up using my trusty hand filet knife to finish the job. I'm gonna try it on some other species such as Crappie, Bream and Bass maybe will work better will let you know with a followup

I originally purchased this product because of the different options for powering this Knife and in that aspect it was a good choice. However, it did not take me long to discover that the motor was deficient in the power department. Purchased in the early spring of 2005, it has slowed down more and more with each use in the last 6 months until it is downright pitiful and slow at filleting. In all fairness I have yet to contact the Rapala Co. about the problem which I plan on doing soon. I just expected better quality from a product under the Rapala name. The filetting action of the blades are equally slow under all the various power options. In the first year of use I found the power output to be adequate enough but it went downhill pretty quickly since then. I need another electric fillet knife now and it will not be a Rapala.

Good Knife for 12v and Houshold Use
This knife is great, I haven't used it on a marathon fillet fest yet, but so far it's good. The blades are sharp, the handle fits my large hand well and the cord doesn't seem to get in the way when using it. 12 volt or using the 110 adapter it runs at the same speed and has enough torque. The only thing that needs improving is the case. The power cords must be packed away just like it came from the factory or they will not fit. It is too small.
