Boasting balsa wood construction, a husky profile, internal rattles and a wide rolling action, Rapala's DT Fat Series Crankbaits are perfect when a slow retrieve with loads of wobble is the preferred tactic. Ideal for heavy cover crankin', the DT Fat Crank's square lip deflects off structure with fish-tantalizing action and rarely gets hung-up. Plus, the premium finishes and 3D holographic eyes give the fat cranks even more lifelike appeal.
Rated 5 out of 5Â by bigbritts Awesome on Largemouth
we were fishing 4 feet of water with a few feet of weeds. With the rod tip up they stayed right under the surface if not top water fishing and......we hammered 4 largemouth 2-3 pounds and a few smaller ones. My advise, get the bright ones if they have any left.

The rapala dt fat 3 is a durable shallow running bait, it is easy to use and the performance is amazing, the paint does not chip easily and it has an awesome style. It may seem expensive but it is worth it! I bang this thing off of cover tonnes of times AND THE LIP STAYS ON! On my first cast with the dt fat 3 i caught a three pound smallie! I would totally recommend htis product.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by swimjigboy my only problems
Don't hit the water with it, the bill will bust off. And pricey!!! Love this square-bill. I catch a lot of fish with it and quality fish but being balsa it does break. Plus the cincy store never stocks them. I a great choice for a big thump but no rattles for pressured waters.

I love this bait for the summer months. It has amazing action. So many great colors to choose from and the paint job is so durable, as always from Rapala. Firetiger, Green Tiger, and Parrot are my favorite colors.

I use p-line floroclear for all my cranking. For the dt fats, 15-20 lb test, powell max square bill rod, quantum tour edition reel. Dt 4/6, 12 lb test, falcon bucoo 7' m/m rod, quantum smoke reel. Dt 10, 12 lb test, st croix mojo crankbait rod, quantum smoke reel. Dt 14/16/20, 10-12 lb test, quantum energy crankbait rod, quantum smoke reel. I use a 6.3:1 reel for my shallower cranks and a 5:1 for my deeper diving cranks. I know this will sound hypocritical, but try to stick with one rod company for all your rods. Every company's rods have little differences here and there. Find one you like and try to stick with it. I'm in the process of changing all mine to powell. They're reasonable is price, and great to fish with. Unfortunately, bps doesn't sell them. Hope this helps.
Bass pro shops has the Lazer eye Nitro Shad. It has a coffin style lip that has great side to side action and deflects pretty well off cover. Now square bill is different. There more compact and don't stick out as far. They run more tight and shallow.
Go with bright colors. Hot Mustard, Parrot, & Red Crawdad are going to be visible to bass in low water clarity. Bass can see a lure 4 times further than a person can. If you can see a lure at 1 foot down, the bass will see it from 4 feet away.
In my opinion Yes I have tried other brands(Mann, Norman, etc) and they work also, but I always go back to the Rapala and am never disappointed! You can't go wrong with a Rapala.
well i would have to say yes despite the price difference. i love the rapala color patterns them seem to work better than anything for me always i'd like the clunn series more but too expensive
The DT Fats dive to 1 foot and 3 feet, but you can take a regular deep diver and modify the lip to make it a deep square bill. The Rapala DT Thug has a similar action and dives 4 to 8 feet but is not a square bill.
Well, they don't make deep diving square bills, but they do offer a coffin lip design bait which does basically the same thing as a square bill. it bounces eractically off of trees, brush, and rocks.
