Also, the hds 10 will be mounted on my center console. Do you think the unit will be top heavy in rough water.

Where it shows “Accessories not included” under the mount it is referring to the fishfinder as the accessories. No, I do not think it will be top heavy in rough water.

Details: 
Do you just loosen a few turns or is it more trouble. I leave my boat outside under cover but remove console sonar unit when under the cover.

Here is an example video found on Rams web site to show you how to use a mount. This is just an example on how to work, not this exact model. To remove your Fishfinder, just loosen the screw and remove the top part of the unit. Thanks
