The lightest all-aluminum reels in their class, Quantum® Smoke™ PT Baitcast Reels are built strong and responsive and ready for full days on the water. All critical components have been lightened, yet the strength and durability you count on remains intact. Performance Tuned to ensure smooth operation at every turn, with a premium aluminum frame and sidecovers, ACS™ cast control system, ceramic PT drag system, permanent Hot Sauce™ lubrication, lightweight EVA handle knobs, and an aluminum main gear and driveshaft.

Our most advanced rod design, the Bass Pro Shops® CarbonLite™ Trigger Rod features feather-light, stealth-black, Pac Bay DLC stainless steel-frame guides with super-hard titanium-carbide inserts and a unique PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating to make them extra-slick and damage-resistant. Ideal for all line types! The CarbonLite is one of the strongest, lightest, most incredibly sensitive rods ever developed. Its sleek, ultra-rich carbon fiber blank leaves other 85 million modulus graphite blanks in the dust! Carbon fiber transmits vibrations instantly and weighs less than standard materials, yet brings more hookset power to the table than you’ll ever need. Its split handles, with their advanced P-Tec polyfoam grips, keep the rod weight low, the blank contact high; our super-light two-piece Soft Touch reel seat is bridgeless, so you’ll enjoy more direct hand-to-blank contact. All in all, we think you’ll love CarbonLite’s incredible feel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Phenomenal rod & reel combo Just used it for the first time today, light weight, smooth action and casts like a dream. The quality is top notch and if you're into looks, well it just looks awesome. Caught a 4 pound bass on a jerk bait and felt every bit of the action from start to finish. I would recommend this to anyone. I will be purchasing another one for my son. March 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by perfectly balanced I knew this would be a good setup just because I have another quantum and this is my fourth carbonlite, what i didn't know is just how great they would balance each other. The quantum smoke is an amazing piece of machinery, i caught several fish and the drag has plenty of adjustment. The rod is fantastic, i got the 7' medium, moderate action for crank baits and i couldn't be happier. the rod is plenty flexible enough but still has enough power to set the hook and get them to the boat. this is the best combo in my arsenal for bass. Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the best combos! So I don't have a Bass Pro Shops in my city, and I decided to give them a call and see if they would give me this rod and reel combo for the same price as the internet price......and they said yes!!!! I was so pumped! So 2 hours later I was in Bass Pro Shops and went straight to the reel counter and made sure I got my 7:1 Quantum Smoke PT100 in my name while I go look for a rod. I was debating between the combo or pairing the reel with the Smoke rod. Well.....both rods felt equally light but the Carbonlite rod is much better balanced. The Smoke rod is a little tip heavy and since I was going to use it for flipping/pitching/casting jigs I wanted great balance. So I bought this combo. The rod I purchased was a 7'6 heavy extra fast tip. I absolutely love it! The only little hiccup was I needed to add a little oil to the reel, but once I did, it is one of the smoothest reels on the market! Great price on the combo because the reel is already $199!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Combo My Stradic MGFB's gears gave out a few trips back and I temporarily replaced it with an old Sahara. This paired with a Kistler Magnesium TS has been my dropshot combo for a while now. I have been getting into some larger fish as of late and the drag on the Sahara just couldn't keep up. I decided instead of replacing the Stradic with another high end spinning reel, I would see if I could find a nice light weight baitcaster combo and give that a try. Well I purchased this combo yesterday and fished a tournament with it last night. Withing the first 5 minutes I caught a 22" 5 1/2 lb bass. The rod was super sensitive and I was able to detect the subtle bite in the 25mph winds we were enduring and the reel's drag was super smooth. I ended up boating about 15 more bass that evening including a few 18" 4lbers and the combo preformed excellent. I am very happy with this purchase. May 11, 2011

if you were going only for bass i would say the 100 series would be fine but since you are targeting catfish as well, i would definitely go with the 150 series smoke. You should probably get a medium heavy as well.

That's all in how you land the fish. I've seen people land catfish weighing 50lbs using a Zebco 404 with 20lb test line.

The Smoke reel is fantastic. Feels great in your hands. Very small and light reel. I have the PT100, the smaller and lighter reel, in the gear ratio 7:1. I use it for casting jigs and I love it!
