Rated 5 out of 5 great combo for the price i use this rod 2 times a week in cape cod and i have never had a problem. i have the 9 foot model and its is getting my lures far past the crashing surf. i have reeled a 40 pound striper in on this thing so you can trust it. August 7, 2011

I'm looking to get into surf fishing for the first time and this looked like a good rod/reel. What other supplies are necessary for a beginner?

A:
This reel is a light action combo, or at least the one i found in bps was. I would not recommend this rod and reel for surf fishing. Try going with a bigger reel, and a longer stronger rod. Also, you need some sinkers and bottom rigs, hooks, and bait, Cast it out and wait for the big one.

I think the limit on this rod is 20lbs but the real limit is what line you use and your technique of how you fish if you rush a fish in or you wear it out by playing it, overall it is a great setup the way it comes, just add what you want to use for a lure or bait at the end of the line and set the handle to the side you like and your off.
