Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 66 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by casts a county mile got this reel for Christmas and tied on a hollow body frog and tried tossing it off my back deck casted so far it actually went into the field behind my house. Easily casts 10-15 yards farther than my favorite frog reel, which this reel now is. All I can say is wow. You want a reel to toss that frog back to where no one else has buy this reel just don't come to my home lake those lunkers that are hiding way back in there will be gone. May 9, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by AWESOME REEL This reel is one of the best reels i have it cast smooth doesn't make the whine noise when you cast far and good for reeling those HUGE lunkers!! Best reel I HAVE!!! April 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 best reel I have ever had This reel is the best one I have. I currently have 11 reels and 4 of them are quantum. This out performes them all.and for the price it could not be better. If you are looking for a great value and quality in an oustanding reel this is the way to go. If I had to go with a different reel I would have to go for the kvd tour reel but since I have found this reel for such a great price Igreatly recommend you buy this reel. You will not regret it.QUANTUM! March 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by ouitstanding Used this reel 6 days in a row at the Big O in Clewiston in heavy cover with a buzz bait and it performed outstanding. You can throw it a mile . Used big game 20 lbs and I cannot say anything bad about this reel. Used a KVD 6.5 rod March 3, 2013

From what iv read, it sounds like the magnetic break is alot better then the centrifugal brake, so is it a big deal that this reel doesn't have the magnetic brake? I would be buying it for cranking, and I was going to pair it with one of them micro guide BPS titanium rods, I'm new to baitcasting reels (own a quantum code too), so any help is appricated. The KVD signature series is a magnetic break reel, is this better or worste casting reel?

If you are hung up on how others feel about certain braking systems, you are missing out! I don't care what thy call it because if it works for me, I WANT IT. I have been baitcastng for over 45 years and have used every type of braking system that has come along. I just bught one of these reels and it is the best casting and easiest reel to use of all I own (at least 15,all brands). If you are new to baitcasting and want a quality reel that is also user frienly, this one is it no matter the brake system. Goos Luck!

You have to turn the handle. The only baitcast reels that the spool stops when you let go of the release are those equipped with a flipping switch and you have it engaged.

Robbie,

Ok; sounds like you do not have unlimited funds, but need a good, reliable all purpose rod. I would suggest a Shimano Compre. You recently got into baitcasters so you really don't need the extra throwing power/distance of 7+ foot rod. I would suggest the CPCX68MHC. It is a 6'8" medium heavy rod with extra fast action, meaning that the primary bend is very close to the tip of the rod. Also, this rod is recommended to throw everything from a a 1/4 oz to a 1 oz lure. A rod recommended for lures anywhere from a 1/4 oz to 1 oz will provide you with a very wide variety of choices to pull out of your tackle box.

Oh yeah, DONT FORGET TO PUT YOUR RECEIPT SOMEPLACE SAFE. Shimano Compre comes with a lifetime warranty. I know it may not seem like you would break a lot of rods, but trust me, if you put your rod to the test and fish hard and frequently, you will have fish snap rods occassionally. With Shimano Compre, take the broken pieces back to Bass Pro and they wiil exchange it if they have one on hand or more likely give you a gift card for the purchase price. Order you another and 4-5 days later, your rod will arrive at the store with no shipping costs.

Don't get me wrong, these rods are very high quality for the money and do not often break, but if it does, you are not out $100+ . That is my suggestion, take it for what it is worth.

I paired this reel with the carbon lite 7' heavy. The price is $109, and well worth it. It's a very comfortable, durable, and sensative combo.

You can do anything with this set up from flipping 3/8 oz lures to throwing heavy musky lures.

this reel is a great reel for frog'n. as far as the correct speed i would recommend the 6.4 ratio so that when the bass hits the frog u have enough speed to remove the slack but wont be gutless if the bass hunkers down in the weeds and u need to winch him out.

The ACS Brake,HELP ME GUYS....

Details:
I purchased this KVD PT Reel today, 1-Im a BIG KVD FAN,2-I wanted a Good Crankbait Reel with a smooth but STRONG drag,& 3-I wanted the Geat Reel all you guys make it out to be! My question is (Out of the box & no line on it),Have any of you guys noticed that when you are reeling with the (ACS) off its quiet & sounds like every other reel, but when you turn the (ACS) on the spool gets a little louder? It almost sounds like you are reeling in line, or like maybe there would be a little dirt or dust on the levelwind. I called BPS & the Associate tried 2 of these reels & said it sounded that way to him also. So,I'm asking,is this normal for this reel or all Quantum Reels with the ACS? Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated.....GOOD FISHING!!

I believe this is due to the metal ring that moves in or out when you adjust the cast control, if you pop the side plate off and adjust the cast control you'll see what I'm talking about

I have 2 of these reels and they work great. With the acs off its in free spool with no resistance at all, when on it engages the brakes which makes a little noise nothing to worry about and does not cause any performance issuses.

Spend the extra money to get the Energy PT. You have an extra bearing and a better cast control system. Plus, in my opinion, you get a better reel. I was talked out of getting the Energy PT. I like this reel too, don't get me wrong, but should have spent the extra money to get the Energy. You could also do a Curado E from Shimano and get a quality reel as well.
