The goal? Zero chance for failure. Ever.

I bought the Cabo PT50 spinning reel 2 years ago and it worked flawless for the first few fishing trips and I couldn't have been more pleased. I meticulously clean the reel after each use as instructed since I typically only fish saltwater and only used hot sauce grease and oil and expected it to last a very long time. About the 6th or 7th time out, all the problems started. First it was simple things like screws coming loose. I quickly learned to tighten them before each use, but after only 2 years, it no longer reels smoothly and as one might suspect, the bearing are a bit noisy. on one of my more recent trips it started making a clanking sound like metal was rubbing. I took it apart and put it back together and though I never could find what was clanking it stopped, then on the last trip out, the bail quit closing on it's own. Not what I expected when I decided to spend over $200 for a reel. I have a $30 shimano sienna that has had much less care and maintenance and after 6 years of exclusive saltwater use still works flawless and I expected much more from my Cabo.

Purchased the Cabo 70 to match it on a 7ft St. Croix Triump Saltwater rod. With the suffix braid on this combo I have a serious fishing machine. Works excellent, plenty of power to haul in those groupers and the occasional shark.
This reel is on the heavy side and should be handled with care as it damages easily.

I have Cabo PTS reels from 20 to 60 size, I have used them for the past 4 years. The drag system is the best I've ever used. I use Cabo's exclusively for all my spinning reels. I have tried all the new products which claim to be the best, all have been sold or given away because they didn't compair.

I purchased this reel two years ago to pair with a 7 ft St Croix, and so far all i have experienced with it is headaches. First, the gearing on the reel failed after having just about a season of use in Florida and the Northeast, and upon opening it it was filled with bad grease and oil, and even after multiple cleanings, the hot sauce grease/ oil that is meant to always have some lubrication at all times seems to hold dirt at all times as well.
The other thing on this reel that I really didnt like was the entire drag system; it may seem smooth, but you cannot get a substantial amount of pressure out of it to to actually have a chance when fighting a fish.
This reel may look pretty, but on the inside it is fair at best. Go for a shimano instead

I have 4 Cabo pt 20's with 10 pound Suffix 832, 2 Cabo pt 30's with 20 pound 832, 2 Cabo pt 40's with 30 pound 832 and 2 Cabo pt 60's with 50 pound 832. 832 is the best braid on the market in my opinion. I have caught many fish in the 20 lb range on the 20's without any problems in open water. Great product I recommend it to anyone serious about good equipment. In fresh water I use Quantum Smoke 150 HPT's with 20 lb 832.Images for this Answer

Dear Bugsmoe,Although it's more than a year ago that you posted your question I would recommend the 7 ft. St. Croix Triump Saltwater.

I would go with the SWC70MHF . Its a medium heavy 7 ft Premiere Saltwater model. I use a similar rod with my CSP50PTs (Medium heavy 6'6" model). I'm basing this on the size of the reel you have and presume you'll be usiing this offshore and not casting tidal or flats.1 of 1
