Corrosive sea water and big, super-aggressive fish spell trouble for ordinary tackle. That's why Quantum's engineers intentionally overbuilt the CaboPT Saltwater Spinning Reels, with an exclusive Saltgard™ 6-layer protective finish, custom polymer/stainless bearings, heat-defeating ceramic drag, and ultra-smooth PT™ gears bathed in Hot Sauce™ lubricant. The goal? Zero chance for failure. Ever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Flawless I have the cabo 40 on a 7' st croix and have used it extensively over the last two years. I bought it originally because my penn slammer would literally smoke when I hooked into larger offshore fish, but the cabo preforms flawlessly. I've pulled countless aj's and cuda off of gulf wrecks along with blackfin, smokers, sharks, grouper, and snapper. (largest of these a 40+ pound aj) I have 30lb power pro spooled and the reel has never shown signs of faultering even with a high drag position and larger fish screaming off drag. This reel has redifined how I fish, and I find myself reaching for it in situations I use to grab my thunnus 16000. December 25, 2006
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice reel Smooth drag, nice inshore reel, have it on a 8ft tsunami rod. Perfect for predators in the shore on the beach May 3, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by cabo 40 I had this reel almost 2 years before getting a chance to use it. i bought it when I was in Kansas along with a Cabo 60, several rods and othr pieces of gear and tucked them away until I made it back home to the Florida coastline. So far I've had to purchase a bail wire becasue it snapped like a prtezel, a broken slider gear due to corrosion and also a new clutch assy because it kept seizing up unless i take it apart after every fishing outing and relube it. I am a freak when rinsing my gear after fishing, so they weren't neglected. I expected better from Quantum and Zebco. I see they have updated the Cabo. Too many complaints maybe?? December 31, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by PT 80 I purchased a PT 80 based on recommendation from BPS representative who I trusted and still trust by the way. I returned after my 2nd use resulted in the internal gears malfunctioning and traded for another PT 80. My 3rd use yesterday saw the handle of the reel come off while reeling in a small ling. This is a different issue with the same model. I am returning for a store credit and this is not a reel I would recommend for $200. August 2, 2011

I have 4 Cabo pt 20's with 10 pound Suffix 832, 2 Cabo pt 30's with 20 pound 832, 2 Cabo pt 40's with 30 pound 832 and 2 Cabo pt 60's with 50 pound 832. 832 is the best braid on the market in my opinion. I have caught many fish in the 20 lb range on the 20's without any problems in open water. Great product I recommend it to anyone serious about good equipment. In fresh water I use Quantum Smoke 150 HPT's with 20 lb 832.

Dear Bugsmoe,

Although it's more than a year ago that you posted your question I would recommend the 7 ft. St. Croix Triump Saltwater.

I would go with the SWC70MHF . Its a medium heavy 7 ft Premiere Saltwater model. I use a similar rod with my CSP50PTs (Medium heavy 6'6" model). I'm basing this on the size of the reel you have and presume you'll be usiing this offshore and not casting tidal or flats.
