I got this reel for a friend because of it's great reveiws. It is really flimsy but it hasn't broke yet. It isn't that smooth ethier. If you want a nice saltwater reel go with a Penn or a Shimano.

I bought 2 of these reels because they got high reviews and I took the cheaper way out. After just one fishing trip they are both toast. We were fishing for redfish and after fighting 2 redfish on each reel, the drag was done. Neither reel will spool line anymore. These reels have a very cheap and light drag. If you plan to use this reel exclusively to catch your baitfish, it might be worth it, but not worth anything else.

I recently purchased a 70 series model for surf fishing. I have been using the Quantum Optix($24.99) and Olympus($34.99) models, and both work very well. I thought I would give these a try. I haven't yet experienced the defects other reviewers have complained of, but the overall quality and ease of use doesn't stack up to other Quantum reels in the same price range. The afore mentioned Optix and Olympus models come with high leverage power-handles, better spool designs and higher bearing counts. They also run MUCH smoother. The reel is adequate for my intended purpose. I recommend the cheapest possible reel for surf fishing, because once sand gets in it, it becomes a paperweight. That being said, I will opt for Quantums other offerings in the future.
