Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 76 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by quantum bill dance combo Rod kept coming apart, rod snapped when catching a 2lb fish, rod broke 4 inches below tip and also snapped in half. Rod qualiy is really low and appears to be very brittle. Customer service replaced but unless it is really light fishing I would upgrade April 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Do not buy I have went through two of these and the tips have broke twice. Terrible rod. Reel is good tho February 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by dad love sit my dad loves this combo good for small catfish bluegill and more. October 3, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good BPS Customer Service Took this combo out the first time and used it for topwater. Rod shattered at the joint when I hooked a bass. Got the bass in the boat but the rod was shot. Nice smooth reel - can cast a country mile! Took back to BPS and they offered to either replace or refund! Great customer service at BPS! A:
I would suggest using 10lb spider wire as it has the 4lb diameter. I have caught up to 8lb bass on this combo. Also, have witnessed this line take a 2 lb bass with submerged branch (wrapped) pulling both fish and limb in the boat. As a whole YES played correctly, keeping the bass, if possible to stay below the surface, easily one could bring that sized fish in the boat.

A:
You may use 10 pound test line. The line weights listed online are the manufacturer recommended line weight. Please note that by using a larger test weight in line, you lose the ability to put as much line on your reel (since the larger test weights also have a larger diamater).

You may change the handle side to retrieve with either your right or left hand. There should be instructions with the combo on how to change the sides.

I have two of these combos in medium and they are sensitive.

A:
I've found it to be very sensitive and it is not very stiff. I have a medium action and find it to really be somewhere between medium light and medium. It still has good backbone though.

Great combo for feeling the beds and bottom. Sensitive for plastics and stiff enough to pull in the big ones.

No, it does not come prespooled with fishing line.

A:
This one does NOT come prespooled with line, however I would recommend getting some practice and hitting the web for some learning. It is recommended by just about everyone that you replace your line every year.

Bill, overall for the price I would recommend this combo. The pole has the finesse capability to use with plastics, although limited with surface lures, ie. buzz baits. The reel with its' ball bearing setup is great, being smooth on retrieve and playing the lures. With plastics, worms, one can easily move these lures through the water creating great strikes and catches. Basically, this would be a great combo for all levels of angler.

A:
Gear ratio basically means the amount of revolutions that the spool makes for every one complete turn of the handle (such as in the case of a 5.2:1, the reel's spool will turn 5.2 times for every one turn of the handle). The line retrieval (abbreviated her as line rec.) is the amount of line retrieved for one full revolution of the handle. The line capacity is based on the normal recommended test line for that size of the reel and simply states how many yards an angler can put on his/her reel at maximum capacity.

On the rod, the power rating determines the "backbone" of the rod. A light or medium light is suitable for smaller panfish, while a medium or medium heavy is better for chasing largemouth bass.

I bought the 6'6'' combo just so i could use heavier line. I used 10 lb. mono. I used this rod for both whacky and texas rigs and love this rod. The sensativivity cant be beat. I use my 6'6'' BPS tourney special baitcaster for tubes but that so i can skip them under trees and what not. Im sure the rod would be fine with tubes as well.

I used the 7ft version for tube baits with a 1/4 oz jig head with 12lb flurocarbon and it worked great. I already had a 6'6" spinning rod which is why I opted for the 7ft version here.

How many bearings in the reel?
