2 Banks/12 Total Amps

The next generation of onboard marine battery chargers is here! Three built-in performance charge profiles are digitally selected with color coded programming caps. Program and reprogram them in the event your batteries are changed to a different type. The ProSport series still features Distributed-On-Demand™ charging--so 100% of the output is always used, distributing total available charging amps to one bank or a combination of all banks as required. Fully automatic, multistage charging with a safe maintenance mode for long- or short-term storage. Features an extruded all-aluminum, amplifier-style housing that's 100% waterproof and shockproof and a lead acid/gel battery one-time selector for an optimum charge on either battery type. Dynamic thermal output control gives you the appropriate charging amps while maintaining the proper temperature. Built-in ignition, reverse polarity, overheat, and short-circuit protection. Fully prewired. Manufacturer's 2-year limited warranty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Not great Less then 2 year stopped working. Still under warrant and they replaced it but I had to pay shipping and wait a little over a week to get it back. About a year later, stopped working again. No longer under warranty. When it works, its great. September 13, 2008
Rated 4 out of 5 by Meeting my expectations I installed the 3 bank ProSport 20 Plus Gen 2 in my Ranger in March of 2008. So far this charger has met all my expectations and kept all the batteries in my boat fully charged and ready to go. I spend allot of time on the water and have been very pleased with the performance of my trolling motor batteries I contribute this to the ProSport 20Plus ability to maintain my batteries at a constant state of charge in float mode after the batteries have been charged. Rated 1 out of 5 by WORST BATTERY CHARGER I EVER USED WORST BATTERY CHARGER I EVER USED I'm really disappointed in this PRO SPORT 12 batt charger as it seems now to never have been working right from day one as to the charge output current. After some 18 months of questionable use I find my 2 deep cycle batts (x2) sulfated to the point of replacement and in checking the output of this charger it's telling me one side is totally dead and the other side showing some 13.2 volts open circuit voltage, but barely 150 ma of output current. It's actually undercharging the batt. I tried calling the company's 800#, but nothing happens as it seems it's dead too! I wrote a review at several sites and even sent in a personal email note to PRO MARINER CORP as to the poor performance of this charger series. Haven't heard back from them as of yet. I'm not happy at all with this on-board charger and doubt if I'll ever buy another one ever again at this point. I also doubt if I'll ever recommend this charger type to anyone either as to the poor service contact info ie: dead 800#, etc. I just had to cut the darn thing out of both the batt circuits as it seems it didn't much matter as it was dead to whatever point anyway. I have had excellent Tech Engineering service support with SCHUMACHER and their fully automatic SPEED CHARGER series chargers in the past to present in speaking with their ENG / TECH DEPT, and will definitely go with their marine series model SS-210A Dual Bank Ship ’N Shore as my next house battery charger. Their automotive batt chargers are second to NONE, and I should have went with my better judgment for this marine application. Unfortunately the purchase for me was not my choice, as it was a XMAS gift and it was out of my hands. Lessons were learned though! Frank from Anaheim, CA June 10, 2008
Rated 1 out of 5 by Defective in less than a year I bought the unit and in 12 months it went dead. Probably only go 20 charges out of it. haven;t gone through the hassle yet of seeing if I can get it replaced or repaired under warranty May 5, 2008

A:
Yes. These units come with a Programming cap for Gel batteries, Flooded Lead Acid / Standard AGM, and High Performance AGM batteries. Optima batteries are actually not Gel batteries they are considered high performance AGM's and you should use this cap to charge your batteries properly.

or should it only be mounted standing up, as in the picture? The instructions say to have the fins horizontal. The way I see it, if the unit is mounted to the deck, the fins are still horizontal. Am I correct in thinking this way?

A:
Yes, you can mount flat.

Make sure you have adequate ventilation for cooling when charging. It can be mounted in any direction; it can even be mounted on the underside of a hatch, or any wall that you have enough room (as long as it is mounted as far as possible from the batteries or fuel tank). Don’t mount them on carpets---if you have no other location, mount it on either a board or with some kind of spacers to lift the charger off of the carpeted area. If the charger is mounted in an enclosed space it is best to open a hatch during the first stage of charging.

The plugs are used in the charger depending on the type of battery you are charging, lead/Acid, AGM or Gel.

A:
They are programming caps. The charger comes set equipped to charge standard Flooded (lead acid)/AGM (Absorbed Glass mat) batteries. To set the charger for high performance AGM or GEL batteries, remove the black programming cap (near the electrical cord connection) and replace it with either the red AGM HP or gray GEL programming cap. Anytime you change caps, apply marine silicone to the threads of the cap being installed.
