Works For Me! I bought this bag a couple of months before I took my yearly trip to the north woods of Minnesota, replacing my big Plano 6 tray box, and was glad I did. All I added was a spinner-bait box, which fit perfectly in the front pocket. Everything from the 6-tray transferred nicely to the bag, including two bait casters and an open faced spinning reel. The fit and finish was great, and for once I didn't have to cover the trays with cardboard to prevent spillage from the airline baggage handlers. I never used a tackle bag before but now I don't think I can go back. What a great system! September 20, 2012
awesome tackle box This is the perfect tackle box for bank fishers. I love to walk through the woods to reach my favorite spot and this tackle box is easily carried over the shoulder. One box holds my soft plastic creature baits and all the necessary rigging, one holds various crank baits, one holds all my small and medium sized spinner baits and the fourth holds my top water baits and jigs. The extra pockets hold extra line and all the typical necessary hardware. Great tackle bag, I bought this one for myself but I am going to buy one as a gift for my boss and my son too. April 28, 2012
broken down on the banks When I boought this bag it was on sale for $50. After wanting it for weeks but not wanting t pay $60 to replace my backpack, I saw it on sale and picked it up. After one week the part the strap clips onto ripped off! Sewed it back up with braid. Presto-fixed.....Next week....the clip on the strap snapped. So apparently if you use all 4 boxes to hold lures and tackle(20-25lbs) the strap might break at a very bad time like mine did twice....just buy the boxes and use your old pack July 4, 2012
One heck of a bag The bag has a very sturdy construction and fits everything. The four tackle boxes are great and easily interchangeable with ones already owned, making for quick packing for different trips or fishing locations. There are plenty of pockets to keep misc. gear and the hard outer edges of the top pocket are great for sunglasses. September 3, 2013

Spinner baits is an option, but would want to keep packaging or get a plastic or tupperware type dish to hold them. The top is padded on both sides, and soft in the middle where it zips open. Personally I store my small towel, keys, cell phone and other things in there as well. The 2 side pockets also have dividers on them so you have 4 separate sections between the 2 pockets.

From what I can gather from your question, you are asking about the top pocket. It is a pocket for additional gear. The outer edges are a "hard" case with a square access panel in the middle. Could be good for quick access gear like glasses, gloves, rag, or any number of things. could fit a small tackle box as well.
