Rated 5 out of 5 by RainbowWrecker Best reel for the cost ever
I love this reel it by far superior to many reels that I have paid much more for. It casts very smooth and retrieves even smoother. For the cost you'll be very hard pressed to find a better reel.

I use the gx7 for jigging walleyes and it preforms great, smooth drag , just an all around nice reel , and so far it has done several hundered walleyes and no problems what so ever and i have the little brother for stream trout and it is all as good as it's big brother

yes but I don't recommend it. If you want to use braid, you need to cover the spool with mono, then tie a clinch knot to connect the mono to the braid. if you want a braid-ready reel. Take a look at the Phlueger President. It is about $20 more than the Trion, but is totally worth the money.
i find the wood handle just as effective as any other kind of handle. You will not regret purchasing this reel, it is top shelf. I have a shimano and Abu Garcia spinning outfit, and prefer this Phleuger over both of them.
i actually use the 8lb model for bass fishing. and i paired it up with an ugly stik lite i use a 6'6'' medium action model and it costs $39.99 it is very nice and has a better design than the regular ugly stik.
The President is a little higher end, and the 7 is softer on the wallet, but still and excellent reel. I believe you also asked about what rod to pair it with, is that right? That depends on what you will be fishing for and how. I have mine on a BPS Graphite IM6 and I use it for light lipless cranks and soft plastics. I have had great success with this combination fishing Normandy Lake.
i have both, president is a much better reel but if you dont fish a ton or if you are getting this reel for a setup you wont use a lot (thats what i did) then get the gx7, neither have let me down ever but the president is a little lighter and has a nicer drag and is easier to fish all day with.
it's probably ok for 12#, but i wouldn't go above that unless you get magnathin line (smaller Diameter line) or something in that class. floro is a premium line that you you can go to a lower pound test (8 - 10) and not sacrifice strength. however, floro has its' limits on the type of presentation you can use with it. talk to your bass pro shop rep for more in depth solutions. Tight lines!
I just needed input on my 6'6 M Lady Ugly Stik, 4740 Trion Reel and 8# Trilene XL Mono. I'm just learning how to fish and don't have any specific preference of what I want to catch. Probably panfishes, small mouth bass and whatever is around in my Ontario lakes. I will be shorefishing majority of the time. Thanks!
that might be a big reel for pan fishing, i use the same reel on a 9' rod for steel head fishing and big pike fishing, they are great reels for the money but if you are fishing for smallmouth and pan fish then i would get a 4730 or 4735
8lb mono/floro all the way! its tough enough to handle big bass and and its real fun when your fishing for fun and you hook that HUGE fish! and i also use about a 6'6'' medium action ugly stick light! lucky fishin' my friend!
