Rated 2 out of 5 by not so lucky This reel has a lot of great reviews but this is not one of them. I purchased a Pflueger Patriarch, used it about 12 hrs then while casting the bail broke off at the line roller. I sent it in for warranty then purchased a Fplueger Supreme to use while the Patriarch was in for repairs. This reel started bothering my hands right away. It knocked 3 to 6 times per handle revolution. I found that by rocking the spool that this was the knock that was transferring the uncomfortable feeling to my rod/reel holding hand. I then had to go back to my Shimano Stratic which was smooth and durable but the bail end where the roller is hits my knuckle and has caused the loss of many xraps as the bail would snap shut and off went the lure and leader. Where to go next, there must be a reel out there that can serve me as well as my 20 plus year old extremely well used Daiwa Super Sport 850 Z ? July 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Drag Not sure where people are saying these reels have a bad drag....all the Pflueger reels I have owned have had superb drag. The smoothness of this drag is one of the reasons why I stick with them. The other is their customer service. April 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great buy,Smooth Reel This reel is super smooth and a great reel to fish with. This reel has a great eye appeal and is a great fishing reel for the price.Super smooth drag , with 6:1 gear ratio. This is the only reel you want to fish with after you use it once. March 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Typical great Pflueger quality This reel is an improvement of an already great reel. It is very similar to the old model and most of the reel appears to be the same. Why change if it works well? The few changes that were made are welcome improvements. The bail wire is larger and the spool has smaller vent holes which seemed to be a problem for some. I now own this model and the previous Supreme model and the new model is just as smooth and well made. I am impressed with the quality and value this reel offers. February 8, 2014

The 8235MG holds 8/185 of mono line. It is equivalent to the 2500 size of the other brands I'm familiar with. It is lighter and smoother than the others I have.

It is not. Mine were made in China. I think almost all the major brands are made in China or South Korea.

The drag system is solid and reliable, as long as you are using it for it's correct application. The Shimano Saros is an amazing real and one of the smoothest operators in it's price class, no doubt. If you don't mind the extra weight of the Saros and spending a few more dollars, then I would give the overall advantage to Saros, but for a lighter weight reel and solid quality all around the Supreme is a great value.
