The Pflueger fly rod and reel that comes in this kit make a great starter. The line is OK, the line is a little rough reeling in on this fly rod but works.

I bought this for my husband because he has always said he wanted to learn fly fishing. I wasn't sure where to even start so I asked the sales consultant at BPS. I ordered this item online and it arrived quickly. It included everything -- yes, even the leader-- that he would need to start. So far he has attented the free lessons offered here in Vegas and he has loved it. Great kit, solid mechanics. 5 stars from me.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Wisconsinjeff a good starter rod
purchased this rod and reel as a starter outfit, decided to learn to fly fish, given that I live near several rivers. I am impressed by the quality of this rod and reel, and that it had line already loaded on the reel.

I do more panfishing with the fly rod and catch a lot of Bass and don't use dacking. I see it used more in saltwater because the fish run longer and fight harder. as a matter of fact I don't ever use the reel to bring the fish in. I hold the line with my Rod hand and pull in with the free handAnswers
A:Â
No it is not over kill for pan fishing I have used a fly rod for years and have done great with pan fish it's all I use it for and I catch more fish Bass or panfish with this than any other methodAnswers

no you must put the line on yourselfA:Â
Yes it comes with all the lines; backing, fly, combo leader and tippet no extra tippet. I don't recall if the fly was tied to the backing but the fly and leader definitely aren't attached.A:Â
The fly line is pre-loaded on the reel. You only have to attach the large end of the tippet (leader) to the fly line, and then a fly to the tippet to start fishing. You may have to research "nail knots" on the internet to see how to join the fly line and tippet.A:Â
comes with backing and fly line. Suppose to come with leader, but it doesn't - be prepared to buy your ownA:Â
Mine had everything included except the leader, which Pfluger sent me within a week, now I have a spare.A:Â
This kit comes with the line prespooled as well as a seperate leader and 5 flies.A:Â
yes it does but no its not already put onAnswers
A:Â
It's not a particularly amazing reel but in three years I haven't replaced mine. It will land most trout. Easy to clean and the reel quite honestly isn't as important as a good quality fly line.A:Â
For the price it's great, if you want more you pay more. I'm sure they have more expensive models. I'm new to fly fishing and it suited my budget.A:Â
the reel is great the rod is garbage its far from durable mine broke after 5 small troutAnswers
A:Â
well, its #6 fly line, so, possibly, but u have to fight the fish really hard, i wouldnt risk it, get a 10 ft rod with #8- #10 fly lineA:Â
I wouldn't risk it. The reel is held on by metal collars cinched down by a plastic nut. good for small to medium play fish but 6 lb. bass would be the one that got awayA:Â
Yes I have landed some nice bass with itAnswers
A:Â
as a stater rell you may want to upgrade the reelA:Â
You can't. It's a set drag. ON another note, be prepared to buy your own leaderAnswers
A:Â
Both. It's one of if not the cheapest outfits on the market. Good middle of the road weight rod comes with a knot guide, everything you need to fish except lessons on casting.A:Â
Good starter rodA:Â
Yes and yesA:Â
I've been told by experienced fly fishermen that it is an excellent set up for a beginner. The rod has some good flex, the reel is basic, I could have easily paid much more and have gotten too much for my skill level.Top 1000 Contributor

SPEND A FEW MORE DOLLARS AND GET THE WHITE RIVER DOGWOOD CANYON! it is amazing and you can have a bit more selection in terms of length and line weight.A:Â
