Rated 4 out of 5 by Good buy The Pflueger fly rod and reel that comes in this kit make a great starter. The line is OK, the line is a little rough reeling in on this fly rod but works. March 16, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by all inclusive starter kit I bought this for my husband because he has always said he wanted to learn fly fishing. I wasn't sure where to even start so I asked the sales consultant at BPS. I ordered this item online and it arrived quickly. It included everything -- yes, even the leader-- that he would need to start. So far he has attented the free lessons offered here in Vegas and he has loved it. Great kit, solid mechanics. 5 stars from me. March 9, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by a good starter rod purchased this rod and reel as a starter outfit, decided to learn to fly fish, given that I live near several rivers. I am impressed by the quality of this rod and reel, and that it had line already loaded on the reel. January 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Purchase was as easy From phone call to receiving my order there were no issues!! January 3, 2011

A:
I do more panfishing with the fly rod and catch a lot of Bass and don't use dacking. I see it used more in saltwater because the fish run longer and fight harder. as a matter of fact I don't ever use the reel to bring the fish in. I hold the line with my Rod hand and pull in with the free hand

No not at all. It's a good basic fly rod, great for small to medium fish. I've caught 2 inch long blue-gill on this before also 20 inch brown trout.

There should be nothing stopping you. the mounting hardware isn't keyed any one way so its just a matter of turning the reel to the left side and tightening it down

Yes it comes with all the lines; backing, fly, combo leader and tippet no extra tippet. I don't recall if the fly was tied to the backing but the fly and leader definitely aren't attached.

A:
The fly line is pre-loaded on the reel. You only have to attach the large end of the tippet (leader) to the fly line, and then a fly to the tippet to start fishing. You may have to research "nail knots" on the internet to see how to join the fly line and tippet.

A:
It's not a particularly amazing reel but in three years I haven't replaced mine. It will land most trout. Easy to clean and the reel quite honestly isn't as important as a good quality fly line.

For the price it's great, if you want more you pay more. I'm sure they have more expensive models. I'm new to fly fishing and it suited my budget.

I wouldn't risk it. The reel is held on by metal collars cinched down by a plastic nut. good for small to medium play fish but 6 lb. bass would be the one that got away

Both. It's one of if not the cheapest outfits on the market. Good middle of the road weight rod comes with a knot guide, everything you need to fish except lessons on casting.

I've been told by experienced fly fishermen that it is an excellent set up for a beginner. The rod has some good flex, the reel is basic, I could have easily paid much more and have gotten too much for my skill level.
