This little reel is the same as the Shakespeare Synergy underspin EXCEPT that Pfleuger uses bearings where Shakespeare uses bushings, and the Pfleuger model is made of metal. The Pfleuger reel is much smoother than the Shakespeare, but the handle has (had) about 1/8" play in it from two sources. Upon disassembly I found the bearing assemblies fit loosely into the reel frame causing most of the play. Shimming the bearings with paper stock took most of the play out. Eliminating two of the three fiber-washers on the crank screw (lefty/righty adjustment) took out the rest. After these minor modifications this is an EXCELLENT reel with superb smoothness.
Hope this helps someone!!

I have fished this reel 2 seasons now and it has performed perfectly. I primarily fish brackesh water for small ( 12-18in ) Rockfish and White Perch.I Fish this reel with a 5ft 6in carbon fiber Shimano Rod ;the result is a lot of fun. I whole heartley. recommend this reel. If nothing else it looks good sitting on your desk,it's a work of art.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Vegas STi great reel for the wife!!!
My wife loves to fish with me but hates using a "normal" spin casting reel. And the quallity of "push button" closed faced reels is less than avarage. And try to find a good quallity UL rod for one is even harder. So when I saw this reel at the Las Vegas BPS i was real excited. I matched it up to a BPS bionic blade 5'6' UL spinning rod and a ballancing kit. WOW, what a nice little trout set-up. I'm almost jellous!! It will cast the smallest (1/16 oz.) spinners with ease and never bird nests or tangles. Best closed face reel she or I have ever used. I even got her the next sized up too. If you have someone or yourself likes to use a closed face reel I would highly recomend getting one to try out. You'll love it!!

A friend of mine bought this reel for me at the Macon Georgia Bass Pro Shop. He brought it to me and I went fishing with it a couple of times. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not the first couple of trips, but then I had a 3 pound bass hit my crappie lure.
This reel didn't slip, the stock line on it didn't break and I had a ball fighting this bass on this little mini reel. It has served me well for crappie fishing too, and it throws the smallest jigs I own with no problems. I will keep this reel with me while fishing from now on.

Yes..But it requires a flat screwdriver.. It is wide enough that you can use a key etc.. I am a lefty myself. It does not convert as quickly as some of my other reels, but yes.. It does.

Yes it actually is very simple. You loosen the screw all the way off on the opposite side of the handle. you can pull the handle out and change it to the other side and put screw on again opposite the handle . While you change sides it will be an excellant time to add a drop of fishing reel oil to the bearing that is exposed when you remove the handle. Good luck.1 of 1
