Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Surf reel happens to be American made I purchased the Torque 7 from Bass Pro and I couldn't be happier. The 7 is pretty big so you may want to try before you buy. For line I uses Sufix 832 50lb test and have no line issues. Spools line very well and even. Very strong, excellent drag. Penn has made some minor upgrades since the original and you can purchase the upgrade and update yourself. My reel already had the updated parts from Bass Pro. No issues, casts very well. No complaints. Very, very solid... somethings the pictures hint at, but when you hold it you definitly know you're not holding an average reel. Made in USA and arguably a better reel than the equivalent Van Staal. April 17, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by If you have too much money buy it... if not,don't The best way that I can describe this reel is as follows. Penn wanted to create their own version of a "van staal" while trying to bring back the durability of the old penn 706z. This isn't a bad reel,but it is seriously over priced. I think most people would rather fork out the extra money to get the van staal. I am a little bitter towards penn since they were a proud American company that sold out to southbend. They just aren't the company that they once were. If you have plenty of money,then what the heck....buy the reel. But this reel doesn't come close to the van staal. It's a smooth reel,but it's just overpriced. I hope this helps. May 23, 2011
