Rated 5 out of 5 by TOTALLY WORTH IT My wife bought me the 850 ssm w/ penn slammer combo for Christmas. I took it on a 36 hour Tuna trip last weekend and it worked like a charm. Spooled w/ 40lb mono, with a 60lb flourocarbon leader, I caught 13 Blackfin with it, without so much as a hiccup from the bail, drag or handle. You can't beat Penn quality. January 5, 2009

The line doesnt really matter too much. you could go up to 100lbs braid if you wanted to, but it doesnt matter because there is only so much drag that can be exerted, probably about 20 lbs max. Your going to want to use either 20 lbs mono or like 65lbs braid. hope this helps

A:
It should as long as the drag is set right. I wouldn't go over 17 to 20 lb line.
