Was an avid customer from both Outerbanks and BassPro shops back in 1990s (yes, before the internet!) Back then I had both catalogues memorized and I mean every page! But i've been away for awhile.
Last month I ordered this combo package with the 660 reel instead.
Although it is a Penn (I own a dozen) I should have done my research more thoroughly. No anti-reverse, the bail only closes when the reel crank/handle is near top of throw and your fingers get pinched between reel mount and the reel crank/handle eliminating that smooth transition to retrieval after cast is complete. Overall material quality for both rod and reel feel like a cheaper grade. Finally, it didn't come with an owner's manual.
Disappointed mostly at myself for pulling the trigger on this BassPro combination sight unseen. I would recommend to anyone considering buying one of these combos perhaps checking one out at a store or consult a friend who has already bought one. Unfortunately for me this was a gift and it arrived in the recipient's presence...feel awkward returning it. It is this gal's first fishing pole.

Very well balanced and excellant quality. I put 300 yards of 20 lb. Braid on this reel. This is probably the best Pompano rod and reel I have owned. Would recommend hightly!

I have two of these and would like to have more. I've used it to catch 28" Red Fish and large Speckled trout. They are a strong proven design that takes a beating and keeps on performing. For the money it's the best one out there.

I initially started out with 2 of the 550 combos and was so pleased with their performance, I added 3 more that I and several of my fishing buddies use to fish for stripers in the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel area. All have performed without any problems whatsoever. The reel is well-balanced to the 7' rod, and the reel's extra long handle greatly eases effort needed to crank in deep running "stretch" baits. When using braided line, am able to cast great distances around the CBBT bridge abutments, which minimizes danger of banging boat into the bridge during strong currents. The rods also have sufficient sensitivity to easily detect slight taps by striper when using swim baits (have been very successful using new Storm swim baits this year), Very pleased with this product - just make sure to rinse saltwater off after each use and should last long time.
