I purchased the Penn 114H2LW / OMSU 2B 50-80 LB rod and reel combo. In appearance the reel is a monster with good quality and with Penn's superior history I know I will enjoy it. The rod is also very stout trying to bend the rod takes a bit of strain so I am sure it will hold up well. I am traveling to Florida from the midwest for a 39 hour gulf charter followed the next day by a 5 hour shark charter. So far I am very impressed by the quality craftsmanship and will update this with a used review following my trip hopefully with some pictures of monsters. P.S. the last charter I took I was stuck with an abused rod and reel which is why I purchased this.

I am looking for a saltwater fishing rod/reel combo for a Christmas present for my husband. He is an experienced fisherman,

but is in need of some updated equipment. I don't have a clue on what to get him. He currently has a Pen 114H, 550SS, 750SS Shimano 2500FI, 4000 FD, 3000FD. He has a surf rod (2-3 pieces, I think), but if he's going shark fishing should he use a 1 piece rod only.Any information would be helpful. He likes the Penn reels, but I've been told from men in FL (at shark fishing places) that the Shimano is a better reel. Please help, hurry.
