I purchased a 9/0 over this past winter and wasn't dilatory in using it. I hooked up to a wahoo off the coast and the reel handled flawlessly. Since I have used this reel on a trophy class trolling rod numerous times. I have had kingfish rip line off of it and the drag holds tight still. This is a quality built American made product. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller in the senator class. This will give you a good variety of what you can do with it. I.e. Shark fish, king, tuna, wahoo, sail, etc and not have worries of not enough line. I am also considering another on a stand up rod for another bait out trolling.

I bought this reel for the V Sailfish international Tournament here in Chiapas, Mexico... an i won the 3rd place with a 33.300 kilos sailfish... the reel sound was amazing kjaka i really enjoy it, and of course i recomende this reel, is very cheap for what you get!!!

this is a graet reels penn makes the best reels. im 13 and my dad let me make a combo i pick a penn senator 9/0 and a 50-130 rod. i use it for trolling caugth 30lb,53.2lb,26.4lb yellowfin tuna. a 60 lb whaooo and a 33lb mahi mahi. the 53lb yellowfin took about 30 mintues and was a very fun fight. the whaooo strippped 250yds of line then had 3 follow up 50yd runs. it took 1hr a long fight for me very fun i sold the fish and earned $180 or $3 a lb. i was very happy planning on buying another reel. im showing my 30lb fish

This is the best reel ever. Used a 6/0 version last year then decided to go buy a 9/0. LOVE IT

Yep it comes with rod harness clamp with hook hold and forward harness so very sturdy.. i made an under clamp from aluminum, as the graphite ones supplied tend to fracture.1 of 1
