Rated 5 out of 5Â by pokerweasel Price per Pound, its a knockout!!
I matched the 9' model with a Penn Spinfisher V 5500 on 30lb braid.
The rod is light with a ton of backbone, yet sensitive. I can cast close to 70yds with a 3oz weight; with 4oz, I can get around 90yds. First time out to the beach, I caught red drum, sheepshead, croaker, and speckle trout with ease. I can't wait to hook up on a big fish to see what this rod can handle.

Super buy! Price & performance in a nice lightweight package. Bought the 10ft spinning rod for surf fishing . At first I thought rod might be a bit too stiff, it ended up being perfect . I was surprised how well & far this rod casts. Good job Penn!

When you first get this rod, it doesent seem that sensitive. At first I was upset. But i took it out, battled a 39lb redfish and it bent like magic! It is truly a high performance rod. I have the 10ft version on a PENN pursuit 6000 it it is fabulous. PLus; casting distance is beyond expectation! And the design on the handle is very cool, and it helps a ton in wet weather!

I picked the 10 foot spinning rod up and have it paired with a Penn Sargus 7000. Rod is quality and is sensitive yet has a good backbone. It is very light.
I use for saltwater surf fishing and love it so far.
It's not fair that two people have given poor reviews when the reviews have nothing to do with the rod itself. A little research and you can clearly see what handle length your rod will be and any serial numbers that say C10 or C12 are going to be a casting rod. S10 and S12 are spinning. It's not rocket science.
If you are looking for a quality, lower priced surf rod, get this!

The models with C at the end of the Model # are casting and an S are spinning. The casting rods are only available in longer sizes1 of 1
