Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing! These rods with the Penn reels are incredible. Smooth drag, great for trolling or bottom fishing. Caught 5 40lb plus kings on the way out to a bottom spot, and then proceeded to catch grouper 50-60 lbs on the same reel. Even caught a goliath that weighed 160 lbs on 40lb test mono. With the two speed reel and the offshore series roller rods, no problem with any fish you find. September 15, 2010

Yes, absolutely. With a line capacity of 700 yds, and a silky smooth lever drag, I'm confident that you could pretty much catch anything out there on this equipment.

Details: 
I am planning an off shore trip going after big tuna
what is the best reels and rods that i need
not the most exspence but some thing good
they say 100 LBS test up to 130 LBS is that true
and what abotu some thing for the 40 to 100 pound fish

A: 
Any penn offshore reel with 30-40 lb test should be able to handle anything up to a couple hundred pounds. You just need to make sure that the maximum amount of drag that the reel can put out doesn't exceed the tensile strength of the line. If you're going after big fish that you know will pull a lot of drag, you'll need tip to butt rollers on the rod.

your going to need at least a 12 foot pole and a mako or shaksphere reel with 300lb test
