Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful spinning reel This is the best spinning reel i own. I don't use it unless I am in a boat (I often shore and surf fish) for fear of getting it in the sand. It's perfect for trout and flounder...and it has that smooth drag that you need when going after shallow water redfish. August 30, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sweet !!! I purchased the Conquer from BPS with the idea of putting it on a 7'6 Star Lite rod (split fork grip)...however this must be the hottest rod in Florida...they are always sold out when I go to the store. I dont buy online because I like to feel the rod...now back to the Penn Conquer!!! I bought the 4000 series , filled it with 20lb powerpro and put it on a 7'6 Hurricane Redbone. I went wade fishing the next day and.....it was a fish catching machine!!! I caught 3 redfish all over 22' and it just whipped them!!! I didn't get one wind knot (and it was windy) , the drag was so strong ... I lowered it just to feel the fish run !! I have found the perfect reel ... I think I will sleep with it from now on...LOL May 15, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by sweet reel I have fished penn reels for years, and this one meets or exceeds my expectations. I put this on a St. Croix Inshore Mojo 7'6" ML rod and spooled up with Suffix 832 10# and love this combination for redfish and trout! March 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by great product I have the 5000 and 7000. I love these reels! Very smooth, cast great, smooth and powerful drag... can't say enough about them. I was originally looking to get a slammer, but got the 7000 instead. Worth the extra money all day long! Note... they do run a little smaller than other products of same size. ie: the 5000 is the size of the normal 40 or 4000, the 4000 is comparable to the usual 30 or 3000, etc. keep that in mind if you are matching it to a rod... rear door water tight?

Details:
With the easy access door, is there a possibility of saltwater intrusion into the reel gears ? If the screw is loose doesn't that open the rear of the reel to water and dirt ?

A:
I know two people who have used this reals since their introduction and the "trap door" has never accidentally swung open. Even with minimal care and saltwater abuse I hear that these reels are still pretty bullet proof.

Can sand get in? Yes, absolutely if the door is open but this reel can withstand a "dunk" better than most.

There are more abuse resistant reels on the market, like the Daiwa Black Gold but this comes at the expense of tighter tolerances and smoother operation.

I hope this helps

Apply a thin coat of a good reel lube along the boarder of the cover, while you have it open for service. Button it up and you should be good to go for a while.

I found a site that listed the max drag at 14.5 Kilograms, so rough math would put that at 30 pounds.

I hope this helps

A:
Exclusive to the Conquer reel is the EASâ„¢ (Easy Access System). A single screw secures a rear hatch that when open provides full access to the gearbox making it easier than ever to service and lubricate gears and bearings. This allows anglers to provide quick maintenance in the field or while travelling, and makes it possible to get back to fishing when you don't necessarily have all the tools to completely break down the reel for service.

You can see the screw in the photo on the Bass pro web site of the Conquer Reel.
