The hype is real.
You know, in the lure fishing communities of the trout world, these spinners get a lot of hype. For me personally I feel everyone has their favorite brands, and lures that do it for them. I was skeptical at first, however, the Panther Martin Sonic Spinner might be the only lure I will admit transcends bias and is a universally productive lure.
When I was younger all I ever fished trout on was worms, and minnows. No one ever had me throw on anything artificial, and I never really argued. After a decade of not really trout fishing at all in my adult life I decided to get back in to it. When I looked around and asked what the best lures were for picky trout, almost anywhere I read, people said Panther Martin.
Regardless of how these lures got their reputation, the fact is, they work. I walked a stretch of stream I use to fish as a kid with live bait that always skunked me, and pulled out two trout in my first few casts. The first being a rather nice brown. After my third trout of the day, the line broke before I could get it out of the fishes mouth, and off went the fish, and the lure. Unfortunately I had no backup. I didn't care though. A guy who hadn't been on the stream in years, and never fished trout with lures just pulled out 3 fish in short order.
For me personally, the Rainbow Trout holograph is like magic. I will from now on always have at least two of them on me.
The one bad thing I will say about these is they aren't very durable. The body and blade started to get scratched and dented after limited use. Granted a pretty large pickerel at the local lake slammed it the evening before my trout adventure. So it had been hit pretty aggressively by four fish.
Ideally I would like these to hold up for more than 4 fish, but as long as I'm catching them, I'm okay with replacing one per trip.
If you want a lure that you can always rely on, I think this one will fit the bill.
