Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Surf Rod Best surf rod i have ever used! and i have lots of em! very good quality, very light, sensitive and durable. i have the 10' and i use 5-7 ounce sinkers to cast live/dead bait from jettys/beach/piers and the Torque surf will cast that much weight no problem, as far as you can throw it! BUY THIS ROD! January 12, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good rod! Rating would be a 5 if tip was a little more sensitive. Strong blank with great finish , grips, and wraps. September 1, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by As good as advertised! I was looking for a 12' surf pole for fishing in the FL panhandle and Flagler Beach area. I saw this new pole online and decided to take a chance. When I received it, I was shocked how nice a pole it was for the money. May have to buy another one! February 6, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent. I like this a lot. This is a really good rod. I bought it for surf fishing in mild surf. It's fabulous. Great design. Feels great. Works great. No complaints at all. Excellent componentry. I have no reservations at all about recommending this rod. January 25, 2011

Is the reel seat a fugi dps 22 which has a diameter of about 1 " and the opening length of 2 3/4 " I need the reel seat to accommodate a Quantum Boca 60 spinning reel. The foot of this reel is 5/8 inch wide and 2 15/16 " long. A fugi dps 20 is too small.

I use a nine footer that handles about 3.5 oz. Works fine for surf and piers, within its weight limits.

A:
A 10' rod would work well for cobia on the surf and would also work well at the pier, but if the pier is 12 to 15 feet high from the water, I recommend having a large saltwater net with a telescopic pole to lift the fish from the water, especially if it's 30 to 60 lbs. Remember, the rod is not a crane with a pulley.

Penn® Torque Surf Rods . First of all is the Penn® Torque Surf Spinning Rods a style know as (acid, spiral and or roberts wrap) Rod?

An Acid Rod or "Spiral Wrapped Rod" is a conventional or casting rod who's guides start out on top of the
blank and then rotate around the rod leaving the final guides and tip under the blank. In a nutshell, this
guide placement reduces torque allowing you to fight larger fish on lighter tackle with less fatigue.

Here are several definitions covering variations of the name, taken from the rodbuilding.org glossary:

Acid Wrap -
"Another term for the spiral wrap. The term originated on the West Coast when one proponent of the wrap
"Jim Racela" was said to have been on "acid" when he wrapped his rod in spiral fashion."

Spiral Wrap -
"A method for taking the line to the bottom of the rod on conventional casting type rods. Results in a rod
which will not twist under load and is inherently stable."

Robert's Wrap -
"Another term for the spiral wrap named after rod builder Chuck Roberts, another proponent of spiral
wrapping for casting rods."

What reel style does penn and bass pro chop recommend. It says Penn® Torque Surf Spinning Rods, does that mean a spinning reel and not a conventional or baitcaster reel.
