  • Sealed HT-100 Slammer® Drag System
  • Oversized bail wire
  • Stainless steel main shaft
  • Line capacity rings
  • Superline spool
One of the most recognized and accomplished saltwater spinning reels in the world, the PENN Spinfisher is a real workhorse. The PENN® Spinfisher® V builds on that legacy with a full metal body, sideplate and rotor plus a water-tight design that keeps saltwater out. Anglers will approve of this reel’s sealed HT-100 Slammer Drag System. For rugged durability, the Spinfisher V’s main shaft is stainless steel, as is its oversized bail wire. Line capacity rings on the Spinfisher V are a first for spinning reels. This reel is suited to inshore, nearshore, offshore and surf angling, or, in short, everything saltwater!

Great Reel I bought this reel last month, while shopping with my dad. I got the 6500 model and put 30 lb. braid on it, and a steel leader for just catching things in the surf and off a pier in Corpus. First day out with a little fishing in the am and some in the pm, I caught 13 fish, pulling them up a 15 foot pier and another 4 foot railing. It winched them easily like a tow truck and the slammer drag system is for reel. I am already shopping for possibly a bigger model sometime down the road. This reel will do everything that I asked of it , with ease. April 15, 2014
Simply Perfect! Bought a 4500 for inshore at mosquito lagoon, sebastian inlet, indian river etc. Haven't caught anything in salt yet but it casts a mile and the retrieve is great. This thing is built to last! Funny story about this reel, I had just SNAPPED my sedona 2500 handle on a 1lb bass. I happened to have this bad boy handy. Next cast I landed a solid 18in bass. I have all the reels I need for now. However, the next reel I buy will undoubtedly be a spinfisher! April 11, 2014
Great Reel The Penn SSV4500 is a great reel. Retrieving at normal speed is effortless. Very smooth drag, and extremely well balance so no vibration on high speed retrieves. The way it stacks the line I get good long casts and have not had any line twist issues. December 12, 2013
Penn Spinfisher SSV4500 - great reel I put the Spinfisher SSV 4500 spinning reel on the Ugly Stik Inshore Select 8 - 20lb Saltwater spinning rod. These two are great together. I am hoping to catch Galveston Bay redfish and trout. You can't go wrong with this reel. I started with 12lb line. But you can probably go up to 20lb or maybe even 30lb braid. It depends on what you are routinely catching. I am not trying to catch larger fish on this setup. The drag is smooth. Buy the reel and you will be pleased. October 24, 2013

5500 is perfect for that set-up. A 6500 would be too heavy and wont be balance

Trying to decide between the 5500, 6500, or 7500 reel. Mostly fishing for sharks and bass from the surf. Looking for the best balance for the rod.

I own the Penn Spinfisher SSV 4500 and 6500. I put the 6500 on an Ugly Stik Tiger, 7' spinning rod. The 6500 is rated for 40 to 50 lb line. If you're fishing for sharks in the surf, you may want the 7500. The 7500 may also balance better with the 10.5' rod.

I have the 6500 and I think the 5500 or 6500 will make you happy. The 6500 might be too big and heavy though.

Swap Spools??

Details:
it appears that the 3500 and 4500 reel bodies/rotors are the same size. Can you swap out a 3500 spool onto a 4500 reel or vice versa?

A:
i asked same thing and never found an answer. i can tell u that from what i could tell holding each that it's not just a swapped spool. the reel itself is bigger. 3500 might still accept the 4500 spool, but the bodies didn't appear to be same sizes. i'd say go into the store and actually try swapping them.
