Lightweight, smooth, and sleek, the PENN® Conflict was designed for the technical inshore angler who is looking for a step up in performance when compared to the Battle—it's a little lighter than the Battle, and puts out a bit more drag power. It's stealthy black on black with smoke highlights finish protects the all-aluminum body and sideplate, and the high-strength carbon-infused rotor (1000–4000 sizes) is light and powerful. The superline spool makes loading braid simple, and the thicker aluminum bail wire adds more toughness to the mix. HT-100 versa drag system; 7+1 stainless sealed bearing system; aluminum handle; EVA knob; rotor brake on 5000, 6000, 8000 sizes; and line capacity rings. Great for salt-or freshwater.

I bought this 2500 Conflict March 2014 and it Is really a great little reel. I use this mainly for inshore fishing and I have been amazed at its durability and how well it casts. On an October trip to Louisiana I caught at least 7 redfish weighing more than 20 lbs and 1 40 + and it handled them all very well. No drag issues, Haven't had a wind knot. Or any glitch what so ever. I have caught hundreds of reds and trout on this little reel and have no complaint...... Not one! January 28, 2015
I have owned my penn conflict for about a year now and I can't be any more amazed at the power of this reel. I have the 3000 size and spooled with power pro and it has caught a variety of species in both fresh and saltwater. I've caught 10lb largemouths to snook and black drum. All in all this reel is probebly one of my favorite light spinning reels do to it being incredibly lightweight and comfortable handle. I will most likely be buying more conflicts in a variety of sizes soon as well September 29, 2014
Penn Conflict This is a great all strong reel but the paint chips off very easy & instead of a roller bearing it's a bushing but I wonder can I get that changed October 16, 2014
"Conflict" An Appropriate Name for this Reel! Recently purchased this reel for my custom built 9'6" spinning rod, to be used primarily for casting hard plastic divers and top water plugs as well as heavy soft plastics into the surf for European Sea Bass. Initial impression was positive, looks nice and feels very smooth. Started the spooling process, by backing the reel with 20 pound spiderwire and topping it off with 200 meters of Duel Hardcore X4, 1.5pe (25 lb breaking strain). I quickly became discouraged with the line lay. Large gaps formed at both the front and rear of the spool. I have been using this same line on another spinning reel (competitor) and absolutely love it...It's the best braided line I have ever used. For the price I paid, I would have expected a much higher level of attention paid to ensuring even distribution of line from the front to the rear of the spool. Quite appropriately named, as I'm having my own ongoing "conflict" with this reel. Might relegate the reel to drift jigging, or just sell it...not impressed. August 15, 2014

Tarpon suggestions

Details:
Is this a good reel for large tarpon? What size and line suggestions? Would be fishing from jetty or pier so I would think larger is better. Also need a good rod to match it with. Thinking about a offshore angler cobia Rod with the wire guides. Need some feedback

A:
To balance your rod we suggest the 8000 size reel with 50-65 lbs braid and as heavy a leader as you can get away with. The Offshore Angler Cobia Rod is a good choice. Keep in mind that when chasing large fish it is especially important to take the time to set your drag. The drag is designed to slow the fish down so that you can turn them as opposed to stopping them dead in their tracks.
