Combining superior performance with a great price, the Orvis Mirage Series Big Game Reel is truly in a class by itself. Borrowing technology employed for the brakes of fighter jets, the Mirage Series Fly Reel employs a fully sealed carbon-to-stainless drag for smooth, consistent, and infinitely-adjustable stopping power—from free spooling to a dead stop. The Mirage Fly Reels feature a completely sealed and maintenance-free drag surface, impervious to saltwater, dirt, grit and other corrosive elements. A positive-click drag knob provides accurate and repeatable drag settings. The reel's large arbor picks up line fast to give you the edge over freshwater and saltwater species. Crafted of strong yet lightweight anodized 6061 T6 aluminum, the Mirage sports a heavily ventilated spool to shed weight yet keep its strength. A special handle shape reduces line from catching. An aggressive diamond knurling on the drag knob permits easier grasp and adjustment mid-battle. Other features include a quick release spool and easy conversion from left-  to right-hand retrieve.

The VII size comes with two spool choices. Choose the high-capacity deep spool for blue water species or the "freak" spool for the highest amount of line pickup for the serious tarpon angler—nearly a foot per crank and nearly 40% faster line pickup than the Size VI reel with the same spool capacity.
