I picked up this rod at my local shop since I needed a replacement 5 wt. Figured I'd get one of the lower end rods ($200 for a lower end, what's the world coming to?)
The rod is very very light in hand, but I quickly noticed that it felt like a broomstick, and that shouldn't be the case for a 5 wt. I ended up having to overline it, and even then it felt like it had little to no load in the middle of the rod. I know fast-actions are supposed to be a bit like that, but even when overlined it still felt real stiff.
A few weeks after using the rod, the reel seat came apart from the rod. They used styarafoam to extend the rod blank into the reel seat as opposed to leaving extra blank to have more of a secure holding area. I was so disappointed...I ended up deciding the rod and quality of the build just wasn't for me. Of course Orvis helped me out, and I ended up getting an Access after paying the difference. I'll never regret it as I'm completely satisfied with my Access!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AwoodATL Great quality for the money!!
I had recently started fly fishing enough to warrant the purchase of a higher priced 4 pc rod. I have a Reddington 5wt 9ft and a TFO signature II 4 wt 8ft. The TFO was a little too mid, slower flex than I liked, with the Reddington a fast rod, heavier and a 5 weight line was a little too much for the hooch in the areas I fish. I was looking for a rod that was the same length (9ft) as this works best for me on either a drift boat or wading. I had bought the TFO pro II first because it was 50$ cheaper but after casting this clearwater, it's much smoother and the fit and finish is much nicer. I exchanged the TFO for the 9 ft 4wt clearwater and couldn't be happier. It's a little more tip flex than the TFO, but still very accurate and delicate. For my casting tempo, this rod better suits my cast, and it is very light compared to most rods in this price range. It got picked as the sleeper rod of the season by a popular fly fishing magazine. I would say that orvis has produced a rod with qualities you only see on a much more expensive rod at a price I can live with... And the 25 year warranty is pretty much lifetime, I think I'll have upgraded in the next 25 years.
