  • 20% lighter than legendary original Battenkill reels
  • Machined from bar stock 6262-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum for durability and low weight
  • Titanium finishes are more durable than the painted finish on die-cast reels
  • Stainless steel gearing is durable and virtually maintenance-free
  • Adjustable Rulon offset disc drag mechanism
  • Easy switching from right-hand to left-hand operation
The Orvis Battenkill Bar Stock Fly Reel is 20% lighter than the original. Why did Orvis redesign one of their best-selling reels of all time? Simple. They knew they could build it even better. The Battenkill Bar Stock owes its success to a machined bar stock 6262-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum casing that provides years of precision and performance. The entire reel was built around an infinitely adjustable Rulon offset disc drag mechanism recognized for its dependability. Each reel also features stainless steel gearing that is durable and virtually maintenance free allowing for easy switching from right to left hand operation. They're saltwater proof thanks to the titanium finish which is anodized for extreme durability. Color: Titanium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great looking reel Im still new to fly fishing and i did a lot of research on fly reel's. This fly feel is great, a wonderful low price reel from Orvis. The drag feel's great, it's very light weight, and it look's attractive. I matched my with a Orvis Clearwater rod 7'6'' 5wt, mid flex couldn't ask for nothing better for being my 1st combo. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great little reel Used this reel on my little 2 wt TFO rod last weekend and absolutely loved it! Even hauled in a 15 inch rainbow...would highly recommend this reel. I have a 5 wt in the same model...and will probably own a few more in my lifetime. June 25, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Battenkill Barstock is a GREAT reel I have three of the Battenkill Barstock (BBS) reels that I have been using for 7 years. The BBS reels are a great reel, light in weight and bullet-proof in durability. Because they are so light they balance wonderfully on light weight rods. I have a BBS-II on an 8'6" 3-wt rod, and I have two of the BBS-III reels on 9' 4-wt rods (the slightly larger BBS-III reel balanced the longer rods better than the BBS-II). Although the reels have only a simple pawl-type drag, it works very well - one of the few examples where simple is superb. If you would have a problem, the Orvis warranty is also simple - they will refund your money on any purchase that isn't 100% satisfactory; anytime, for any reason. You can't get much better than that! If you want a very lightweight, durable and attractive reel; take a good look at the Orvis BBS. They are really sweet! February 20, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by What a drag Great looking reel, very light and durable. My biggest problem is the drag. Over a period of time, the drag setting loosens while in use. I find myself constantly checking the drag during a day on the water. For 1-3 weight rods this might not be a problem. I've paired it with a Helios 5 wt and ended up switching to a Ross Evolution. Regular. The Mid is bigger, and the large is the largest. From what I recall, the mid has 1.5 x the retreival speed and the large arbor has 2x that of the barstock.
