i have this canoe at basspro in miami i have it for like two years im very impress. Me and my wife use it to fish on biscayne bay and around the keys. Very easy to carry and very stable for the two of us.

This canoe (for the money) is hard to beat. It has decent stability, lots of cool features, and a very wallet friendly price tag. I have all but ditched the motor boats just because of this lil' gem. My brother and I got this canoe at the beginning of the year and have taken it out dozens of times, fishing for those feisty North Carolina mountain river rock bass, smallies, spotted bass, and of course tons of red breasted sunfish...We are extremely pleased with this canoe and I would recommend this or its 16' sibling to anyone in the market for a cheap first canoe. Now, I wouldn't recommend this for extensive open water paddling because its tracking ability is somewhat anemic, it tends to veer off from side to side after a while and requires excessive paddling to keep straight when crossing a lake. If you want to go more open water I highly suggest the 16 footer, longer boats just track a lil' better. Other than that, if you want to hit up small lakes for short periods of time, or river paddling this is a great first boat for you!

Great, durable, and tough canoe. Seats are fairly comfortable and you have to make the canoe tip in order to tip it over (other words, very stable). I've taken it out on many all day fishing trips and been comfortable sitting in the canoe, sometimes, 5 hours straight (legs get little cramp though).
I've taken it out solo couple of times, little hard to handle by myself, mostly due to length and paddling solo from the middle is kind of hard but since I'm mostly fishing, paddling is mostly just keeping the canoe in the area.
Few of the rivers I fish have big speed boats and this canoe takes their wake very good.

Wish I woulda bought it yrs ago. Handles great, travels 3 people, Comfortable seats ! and lots of great accessories..Storage boxs(3rd seat), Rod and cup holders. And it's light enough for me to load & carry myself.

I use this in Lake Michigan, probably similar conditions to Lake St. Clair. Small chop isn't a problem, and there is a lip on the front of the cockpit that keeps some of the water out. Bigger waves could be a problem, because the kayak isn't positively buoyant when it is swamped, and I couldn't figure out a way to clear the water either sitting in the kayak or trying to clear it like a canoe. It just didn't have enough flotation or freeboard. I haven't tried a cockpit skirt but may this fall.Answers

Per Old Town web site: What size (hp) motor can I use with my Old Town canoe?While some Old Town canoes are designed to handle up to 5 horsepower motors, we generally recommend that motors on traditional double ended canoes be limited to 3 hp.
One horsepower is approximately equal to 15 pounds of thrust. For 3 hp try a 45 lb thrust and for 5 hp try 75 lb thrust.
