Great Corrosion Resistance & Strength I picked up some of these to try on one of my Bass Pro Shops visits while searching the Saltwater section. I use them for striper fishing due to their strength and longer hook when using any trout, shad, or minnow type soft plastic bait. The hook sets a little farther down and it changes the action a little and sometimes that is all the edge you need to land the bigger ones. They cast well, hold your plastics well and are fairly snag free when used through the types of cover the big stripers like to lurk in. December 31, 2007
A decent jig and good value I used the 1/4 jigheads with Gulp shrimp and found the relatively small hook effective for smaller snappers. I usually use hooks with a wider gap for redfish and snook but these jigheads are terrific for creating a smaller and more condensed profile. They are relatively inexpensive and come in a decent quantity so you can afford to lose a few on snaggy bottoms. I would caution that the size of the hook on the 1/8 heads is probably too small for most saltwater applications. February 28, 2012
jighead deadly jighead for weakfish, bluefish, sea trout, fluke, or southern flounder....smallish head really stays put in the fishes mouth..perfect balance of hook an head shape does not cause the jig to fall out when the fish shakes its head or jumps....perfect for plastic ...gulp...power baits or any organic based or plastic grub or bait tail used....heads do not come in to many colors.....thats good....keep it simple and that puts more fish in the boat or shore....and the jig really stands up to saltwater corrosion.....you also feel the jig on the cast and during the retrieve, when the jig hits the bottom or structure you really feel it in rod or your hand....excellent transmission of whats going on the end of your line.............. September 8, 2006
good design I've used these jigheads, primarily in the 1/8 and 1/4 ounce sizes, for a number of years in saltwater. This style sheds weeds & floating "grass" better than others I've tried, and is well suited for shrimp-style bodies and jerkbaits. However, the hook is "soft" and I've lost a number of redfish (over slot size) due to the hook straightening out, on the 1/8 ounce size, in spite of using very light tackle (10 lb braid & 12lb flouro leader). A forged hook would be a great improvement. May 14, 2013

hook size?

Details:
Hello everyone,
Thanks for the useful comments above. Can anyone provide the hook size for these jigheads? Also, are there different hook sizes for the 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 oz. sizes?
Thanks,
Tom from Maryland

A:
The hook sizes are increasingly larger as the jig weight is increased. The hooks used in the 1/8 ounce size are too soft.
