  • PowerLock™ instant anti-reverse
  • Oversized line roller

The Offshore Angler Sea Lion Spinning Reels set an amazing benchmark for quality and value—compare these features! The gearbox rides on a 3-bearing system, backed up by our PowerLock™ instant anti-reverse, a rugged reinforced graphite frame and rotor, corrosion-resistant stainless steel components, smooth and reliable 6-disc drag system, and oversized line roller. Both the spool and the left/right fold-down handle are crafted of machined and anodized aluminum, for superior strength without added weight. All in all, our Sea Lion Spinning Reel is the tightest performance package available at anywhere near this price. Prototypes were tested on a wide range of species, from bull reds to sailfish, without a single malfunction. For all-around performance in any saltwater situation, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better-handling reel OR a better value -- in fact, you won't!

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 40 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sea Lion Reel This is a great Salt water reel. The reason why is because the quality is fantastic and is much better than the rentals that you get on a charter boat. It is low cost and high quality perfect for beginners or the fisherman on a buget who want a great reel. Lets face it this economy is putting everyone in a bind to save or re- think our spending. This reel is not that expensive and I would hope that goes for everyone. September 5, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by They took care of me. Bought the SL50 as a smaller backup reel for the boat. The reel handle is designed alot like my Abu 7000s I use and I wanted a spinnig reel for people that come on the boat that can't cast a bait caster. The second time I used it a screw fell out of the bail while fighting a fish. Called reel repir and they are sending me a new screw to replace it. All taken care of without shipping in the reel. Thank you for the great customer service. You get 5 stars May 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Can`t beleive it. Came back from surf fishing , it was so windy i had to use 5oz of weight to hold bottom. The first time i reeled in i thought i lost the weight, it felt like there was nothing on the end of the line. I ask one of my friends to try it, he said the same thing. It operates so smooth, I think it is spoiling me. May 6, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good reel with one issue I bought the 70 and 80 series for surf fishing. Nice smooth reels. No issues with the 70 series. The 80 series works well except it tends to lock up it's own when casting. The handle seems to be so heavy that it will spin when casting and prematurely trip the bail. That puts a lot of stress on the line and reel when this happens and it stops a 5 oz weight in mid air. A heavier bail spring would solve this issue or remove it altogether and close the bail manually. October 18, 2010

I would get something a little lighter. This is meant for hauling 30 plus pound fish out of a tide.

I would go with the SL40 but at biggest the SL50, if using from the pier you could probably get away with the SL60 if you want the extra line capacity.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE AND YOU DONT ALREADY HAVE IT, I WOULD RECOMMEND THE CATMAXX-70 SPINNING REEL. THAT REAL IS TOUGH FOR EXTREME HEAVY DUTY FISHING. I HAVE CAUGHT A 62INCH STUGEON ON THAT REEL AND HUGE STING RAYS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.

A:
to find the the line capacity for a different pound test of a reel, multiply the pound test by the number of yards it will hold, then divide that by the pound test you want to use, this will give you the new yards for that pound test. for example: 12*200=2400, if i want to know how many yards of 15 pund test the sl50 will hold then i divide 2400 by 15=160 yds of 15.
