Rated 2 out of 5 by Reel I have had this reel for about a year now. It was good at first but after a few months it started making an awful noice when you cast. Drag is horrible on this reel. i've used it for whiiting, and spot from the surf to puppy drum and specks. Honestly don't waste your money on this reel. February 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressed with Reel... I bought this reel to handle a variety of fishing types....I wanted to use it for sight casting to redfish in the bays, bottom bouncing for trout, snapper, grouper, etc as well as in freshwater for musky and catfish. I was really impressed with how well the reel casted lures (i was easily casting 1 ounce jig heads with plastic swimbaits...and further than expected) It also performed very well bottom bouncing live bait...i used it in 30 fow for trout and it worked extremely well and 100 fow for snapper, triggerfish, mackerel and it did pretty well too...i was catching 20-30 pound snapper with the drag working very well! I have yet to use for musky or catfish, but being pretty similar to scenarios above I am sure it will work out well. December 4, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by great saltwater reel have had the reel for around 4 yrs and still love this reel. have used from bay fishing to offshore fishing and handles a kelp bass just as well as a 30lb yellowtail, its never let me down...looking to buy a new one soon for myself and my brother!! Rated 3 out of 5 by Average Perfomance I bought two of these reels thinking that they would be a good substitute for a Calcutta and the reel has never malfunctioned while I was fishing. The reason for my average rating is due to durability. Both reels stopped working properly at the same time…which wasn’t very long after I purchased them. I sent them back to BPS for repair, but it wasn’t very long before I they started acting up again; bearing issues, making funny noises, and poor action while reeling. If you fish with bait off the side of your boat, this reel is for you. If you cast lures all day and require something that can withstand a lot of action, buy something else. July 27, 2011

I have a 4 year old reel and I can no longer get the line guide to flow freely back and forth. It looks like the piece which controls the back and forth distribution is cracked and will not allow it to move after it gets to the right side. Any suggestions?

send it to basspro repair shop. really cheap. if you look at the reel from the reverse side of levelwind there is a flat head screw cover. take the cover off and there is a pressure pin that rides the grooves on the shaft to turn the levelwind. you can replace the pin.

The main difference between the Ocean Master Reel and the Musky Angler is that the Ocean master is a Casting reel specifically made for Saltwater. The Musky Angler is a Conventional reel that is specifically made for Freshwater. Thank you!

the roddy 175 by penn has almost identical internals and you can buy one online for less than $40.00 and just switch out the broken parts but if possible find a schematic for the reel
